But.... how...
Who doesn't know where their lungs are :/
WTF?
They MOVE when you BREATHE and you do that ALL THE TIME. How do you not figure that one out?
I am surprised that the lung of all the ones tested is the one where people had the most trouble with (so much that I went to double check). I think the one I'd have more difficulty pinpointing with my finger on my body would be the gallbladder and liver.
Full Results (table lists a general sample and patients with organ-specific conditions):
Remarkably more people know where their THYROID is than their lungs - even more bizarrely, patients with respiratory problems only scored 10% better. I mean - what the hell?

EDIT: In fact if you look at it closely, the general public knew least about their lungs than anything else. The only thing i can think of is if they put two fairly similar pictures (for instance the kidney diagram) together.
Reminds me of the "Americans are NOT stupid" video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNHs0tYv_-I
I'm honestly impressed more people knew where their gallbladder is though![]()
What age group did they sample though. 4yr olds?
Thats bad. As I did a degree in Biochemistry and Microbiology basic anatomy I had to know!! I'd have trouble locating ovaries on me though ...![]()
Probably the same group as those that can't remember their postal code or anything remotely useful lol
I've been saying for years that people are getting dumber as more and more is done for them now and I think I've got a point when results like this appear.
I'd hate to see the same test results in 10 years time![]()
Baffled... Utterly baffled. Though it's worth noting that the diagrams on the BBC article simplify things further than the link Whiternoise posted - at the end of that PDF there are two examples with the pancreas one being slightly harder than the one the BBC used. Though the kidneys example made me laugh... No no - that's not your kidneys - that's your cock...
I can only just about guess. Then again the medical school I attended wasn't too hot on anatomy. The professor was drunk all of the time and used to write directly onto the ohp with indelable pens.
Not around too often!
