How did you think up your interweb monicker?

I dunno if I've ever seen this asked here before, but I've been thinking about how people come to make up their nicknames they use on the internet. Some of us (i.e. the boring ones with no imagination what-so-ever like me) use their name, but others are really quite random and/or imaginative.

So, if you have a nickname/moniker/alternative identity that you use on the web, how did you come about creating it? Does it mean something special to you or others? Is it something you like or aspire to be? Is it related to entertainment in any way (character from a film/book/comic etc)?

I'm hoping this thread might also help others to broaden their imagination and create their own unique identity if they haven't already got one.

For example, in EVE Online my character name is Allen Jameson. "Allen" is obviously my first name, but "Jameson" comes from Commander Jameson of Elite, and later, one of his grandchildren in Frontier: Elite II, my favouritist ever Amiga game when I was a wee nipper.

It's not really to do with my nickname, but it's a start in the hope others will follow and divulge the information some of us are probably dying to know about how people chose their forum names!

Re: How did you think up your interweb monicker?

My initials are JAM, i didn't find it amusing putting JAM in games and people calling me a jammy git (oh the lols...) when i beat them.

I needed something new, that could fit in 3 letters if required, so TAKx2, where did TAK come from? i have no idea...

Hence TAKTAK was born, well technically it used to be TakTak...

    interesting isn't it....

Re: How did you think up your interweb monicker?

When Xbox Live first came out an MS rep offered a few of us in store (Game) a full year's free membership so that we'd all love it and try and pimp it out to the customers. My gamertag came from a random discussion about what to call ourselves and my forum name is a modification of that.

Re: How did you think up your interweb monicker?

Most of my net names are variations on nicknames to one degree or other, others have been thought up for the purpose & evolved into a nickname after. (Example one MMO name Wildtoad, came from nickname Toad ) Add that to Skype names, email aliases etc & I sometimes have to think what the context is & what I'm answering to. Probably a lot to be said for keeping one name across the board.

Re: How did you think up your interweb monicker?

I seem to recall picking a random word on the screen for an irc channel name back in the days when the whole 'r0x0r j00 b0xx0rs' thing was seemingly down with the kids.

Ever since then I've just stuck with it as a sort of millstone of shame for trying to be 'hip'.

Singh it my last name (duh) and 400 was suggested by Hotmail when making my first email account way back then.

Thus was born Singh400. It's the main online handle that I use. Apart from my smurfs on ET:QW

I used to be a Tolkien geek so created an unique name based on obscure Elvish etymology.

Mine is more to do with my physical size than it has anything else. Alot of people think that it came from Robot Wars and thought I was one of the guys that enetered a Robot, but thats not true at all.

Been Behemoth on the net pretty much ever since we got it at school, although I do seem to recall using the name when playing Lan games with friends, Behemoth, Ebola and Existence, ahhh fun times

mine is just a slight variation on my name - or is it?

if you google it, there is still only 1 or 2 correct entries on the whole internet that relate to me. theres only 12 if you do 'stevie lee hexus'.

its as if i didnt want anyone to know who i was

also use chocopanda, but thats mainly on sites i use for my mum, because she hasn't got the faintest idea on how a computer works, so i do everything for her. i like chocolate and pandas hence chocopanda. simple aint it

Shelley is my name ( Michelle actually, but that hardly gets used ) bda because my husbands user name is Jon_bda so it's an association to him.

BDA is an engine that was used in the Ford Escort RS 1600 rally cars of the 70's useless trivia I know, but ya did ask
