New Top Gear Series: 21st June

Just seen an advert for a new Top Gear series starting next Sunday. Will no doubt bump this closer to the time as well.

Motoring news and views. Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May compete in an epic London-to-Edinburgh race, setting out to discover what Top Gear might have been like 60 years ago. James grabs a gorgeous old Jaguar XK120 sports car, while Richard chooses to torture himself on the Vincent Black Shadow motorbike, and Jeremy takes the Tornado, a new steam train built to the blueprints used to create some of Britain's finest locomotives in the heyday of the railways.

This is then followed on BBC2 by "James May on the Moon"

Im guessing 8, pritty sure thats how many episodes there have been in the last couple of series!

Ah, excellent news. Jeremy in a steam train is going to be interesting, I'd have thought James May would have been the obvious choice for that. Maybe the owners of the Jag only lent it to them on the condition that Clarkson didn't go near it!

Regarding the number of episodes, I can't find any information, but for reference, here's a list of the other Top Gear seasons with the number of episodes in each:

I don't know if anybody agrees, but I heard that they're planning to keep the number/length of the challenges in check a bit, and ensure that car reviews stay as a major part of the programme, which in my opinion is a good move.

I love the challenges as much as the next person, but they got a little bit too frequent/ridiculous for my liking. A lot of the magic of the early challenges came from their originality and being different to the usual material, so I thought some of that would be lost if they ignored the main issue of reviewing cars.

Sort of agree but they are a huge part of the fun imo, I've grown to not miss the car reviews. What are magazines for? lol

They gone HD yet? Filled a petition in for the BBC a while ago asking for Top Gear in HD. The fact it isn't in HD yet is a complete joke!

Trouble is people don't watch it for a review of the latest Micra, they watch it because it's hilarious. If you want reviews, go and watch fifth gear.

I like the short reviews they do at the start of each episode, superb cinematography normally too, and quite a few of the challenges do actually have a point. The majority of the "challenges" where they pick three cars and drive them around tend to be quite review-y.

That said, i'd rather they had 4 stupendously good challenges than 8 less funny ones.
