Pixar grants little girls dying wish

    http://www.ocregister.com/articles/p...-home-show.htm

HUNTINGTON BEACH – Colby Curtin, a 10-year-old with a rare form of cancer, was staying alive for one thing – a movie.

From the minute Colby saw the previews to the Disney-Pixar movie Up, she was desperate to see it. Colby had been diagnosed with vascular cancer about three years ago, said her mother, Lisa Curtin, and at the beginning of this month it became apparent that she would die soon and was too ill to be moved to a theater to see the film.

After a family friend made frantic calls to Pixar to help grant Colby her dying wish, Pixar came to the rescue.

The company flew an employee with a DVD of Up, which is only in theaters, to the Curtins’ Huntington Beach home on June 10 for a private viewing of the movie.

The animated movie begins with scenes showing the evolution of a relationship between a husband and wife. After losing his wife in old age, the now grumpy man deals with his loss by attaching thousands of balloons to his house, flying into the sky, and going on an adventure with a little boy.

Colby died about seven hours after seeing the film.

With her daughter’s vigil planned for Friday, Lisa Curtin reflected about how grateful she is that Pixar – and "Up" – were a part of her only child’s last day.

“When I watched it, I had really no idea about the content of the theme of the movie,” said Curtin, 46. “I just know that word ‘Up’ and all of the balloons and I swear to you, for me it meant that (Colby) was going to go up. Up to heaven.”

Pixar officials declined to comment on the story or name the employees involved.
Really moving story, especially when you read about how she couldn't open her eyes for most of it because of the pain

Shows that companies can be sympathetic
Tis a nice gesture, and I hope the family are ok.

    Really moving story.
Just imagine how Colby felt, even without being able to see the film and only being able to hear it. Bet she felt over the moon, and for the time that film was on, felt on top of the world.

No, they don't, they recognise a good PR oppertunity when they see one. Wouldn't surprise me if they went looking for a dying child.

Lucio, I think that comment is a little harsh and very un-needed.

i think Lucio is probably correct tbh. they got publicity from it.. so they're obviously going to do it.

"Mr Pixar, would you please come and play your new film to my dying daughter?"
"let me ring you back in 5 minutes"
    *phone call to the press*
    *rings them back*
    "yes, we'd love to..."

So, basically what your saying is big companies like Pixar don't have a heart and won't do thing's like this out of kindness, but only for publicity?

    Disgusting remarks to be honest.

Re: Pixar grants little girls dying wish

It may well have been a PR stunt (I would hope not but the cynic in me says differently). Anyhow its nice to know that the little girl did get her final wish

Thats the problem nowadays, we are so distrusting of each other then whenever someone does something nice we always try to find an ulterior motive. However the problem is that with big companies is that we never really know what the true intentions are when they something like this but I personally like to hope the main aim was not for PR.

i think this thread is on track and its a public forum for opinions.

while they may not have done it for publicity the fact they avoided negative publicity may have come into play with there choice to fly someone down with a DVD..

Or maybe..just maybe they did it out of the kindness of their hearts, to give a dieing girl her wish? Afterall they are human and are allowed feelings, aren't they? Wouldn't you do the same if you could?

Why is everyone turning so cynical all of a sudden?

Anyway, the thread is getting off topic. The topic is about Pixar doing something quite generous and granting a young girl her dieing wish.
