    In a rush earlier..

I cooked beans on toast, then realised the two pieces of bread i ate potentially had green mold on them.

A quick call to NHS direct followed, and i was told to look out for food poisoning symptoms over the next few days.

Just wondering if anyone else has made this mistake before.

The loaf was unused i just assumed it was fresh, after taking it from the bread bin in our kitchen.

Done it a fair few times, tastes horrible but gives you no ill effects from my experience.

I've eaten mouldy bread before, never done me any harm, usually just pick it off and continue eating if I see it

better scrub yourself clean with bleach and a brillo pad to be on the safe side.

well at least you gave NHS direct a good laugh no doubt

had white mould a few months back, thought it tasted funny and took hours until the taste went. you couldnt see that bugger until you got really close.

You toasted it mate, you'll be fine. I've done it myself a couple of times to be fair and working in a kitchen I've seen baps growing new life forms get toasted and served to the public with no ill effects.

Yeah I've eaten green bread before and survived to tell the tale - no ill effects noticed.

    Re: In a rush earlier..

Generally the mould will be on the outer edges of the bread and toasting it will fairly effectively kill any bacteria. What you can't protect (with heat at least) against is any toxins that have been formed.

I wouldn't worry about it, unless it's a seriously rotten slice of bread you'll be fine. If my bread is starting to get a bit green i just cut it off. But i make a habit of freezing all my bread now

    Re: In a rush earlier..

While penicillin can be extracted and is found in most common forms of mouldy bread, not the best thing to go and do if you are ill! Unless the heat was quite intense, some bacterial cells would have survived.

Unless you are allergic to penicillin, then you probably will have a little bad stomach for a few days if anything.

    Re: In a rush earlier..

It's unlikely all that much extra bacteria would grow on bread and they're the main cause of food poisoning. Mould is different, not exactly good for you, but not usually all that bad for you either unless you're inhaling rather than eating. Blue cheese is quite popular too

    Re: In a rush earlier..

What is it with this bacteria obsession. The OP was talking about mould which is a fungus.
Some forms of bacteria may form mould like growths in some circumstances but not on bread!

I did it. Gave me awful stomach cramps combined with frequent rushes to the bathroom. No lectures took place for me for about 3-4 days. Was pretty annoying
