    Paddling Pools

Does anyone know where I can buy a cheap paddling pool in Reading? I'm after one for my dogs. All the places I can think of that would sell paddling pools don't have any in stock.

    Argos
    Homebase
    Tesco
    Asda
    B&Q
    Focus
    Toys R Us.

Argos and Homebase have one on their websites that is a metre across and costs £2.39, which would be perfect if they had any. I don't want to spend any more than £10.

Amazon has too much guff to sift through, so I can't find one actually being sold by Amazon. I can't think of anywhere else that would sell them.

    Re: Paddling Pools

Wouldn't a £2.39 pool be awfully likely to burst, it used by a (presumably) sharp-clawed dog?

    Re: Paddling Pools

It should be ok if I put some mats in the bottom of it. If not, it's only £2.39.

    Re: Paddling Pools

If it is intended to cool the dogs, its their paws that need to get wet.

According to all the books I have, a dog dissipates its heat through its tongue (by panting) and its paws.

My dogs seem to prefer the water to be a couple of inches high and no more, when I first put water in their paddling pool for them at the beginning of the week they were in and out all the time, I increased the depth to about 5 inches and they need coaxing to use it and will not go in if either the wife or I dont walk in it with them.

Looks like its time to lower the water level again.

    Re: Paddling Pools

can you not get a cheap rigid one? Like a kids sandpit?

I remember the clamshell ones from years ago could be filled with water

Something like that? - depends how big your dogs are (One of mine wouldn't fit in there.. let alone 2!)

    Re: Paddling Pools

I have a 4ft diameter pool and my German shepherds are fine in that (as Saracen will confirm, one of the GSD's thinks its an elephant and keeps growing long after its supposed to be fully grown!) he is somewhat big.

They actually only need to walk in the water and stand with the bottom of their feet submerged for a few minutes for this to be effective.

Since my previous post I checked some details, a dog can actually lose body heat from THREE places only, its Paws, its tongue and it can also reduce body heat via its ears.

Aldi or Lidl might be worth a look too if you don't want to go online.

    Re: Paddling Pools

I bought one in Tesco a few weeks ago for £2.89 or similar price... pretty good size too. The air is only in the outer rings, so dog claws on the base shouldn't be a prob... anyway, for that money, its worth a shot
Our store had loads... they did also have them on Tesco Direct but can't see them there anymore

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.... It was them that started me drinking.
