Re: How much do you download a month?

ouch, with the guys using over 200Gb no wonder we're all being throttled

With 360 demos, videos & streaming I reckon I use about 10-20gb, Sky are now reducing their mid 40gb limit to 10gb as 'that's what most people use' so I need to move (to 02) Sky are ******s in case you didn't already realise that..

Depends on the mechanism used - and when you do it. If it's via BT's ipstream (i.e. not LLU or cable) then the amount isn't the issue so much as when you grab it. The notion that it's 'amount' that counts doesn't ring true in this case - and that's why ISPs bang on about peak hours a fair bit (because of the charging model in place) - as it's more about bandwidth saturation (overfull pipes).

I'm IPStream (no choice) but i'd happily shift to a new (faster) model if LLU was available where I am.

Anyone with O2 & use mega amounts of data/month? Any shaping?

    Glad I moved from Sky @ £5/month, O2 is £7.34/month, 2 months free & £50 Quidco = £1.95/month over the year

cost is the worst reason to move to 02/be.. especially be. if they had a service that offered a % cost over competitors but a premium service i would take it

    oh.. already have

I'm download about 40gb a month now, used to be more but Virgin Media is getting quite restrictive in the amount you can dl at certain times. Sucks but not much we can do.

o2 are excellent for downloading on, from reports on the internet their fair usage policy has never been implemented and there's no traffic shaping (to the best of my knowledge) at all.

Re: How much do you download a month?

I hadn't really thought about it till this was up so i installed a traffic meter on Fri evening so over the weekend i've download 2.4GB.

That did include a trial for photoshop but then i didn't watch any iplayer etc so it probaly levels out.

Going on this then i'd say i'd download about 85GB in a month then.

But that's just on my PC and doesn't include my xbox (couple of demo's a month) and my gf's

Re: How much do you download a month?

I have a dedicated Ubuntu torrent box that leeches 24/7 on my 2Mbps link (I know, I know, but its about the most I get all way out here in the middle of the ocean).

Doing approx 200GB/month; I've downloaded 1.2TB in the last 6 months since I've setup the server.

Re: How much do you download a month?

I'm not really surprised by some of the higher figures posted so far. Although I am wondering why nobody's questioned what those bytes where. It does kind of remind me of my usage many years ago, but I found the amount of time I spent managing all that data not to be a worthwhile past time. Being obsessive by nature takes its toll eventually. I'm a lot happier having legitiment offerings now, developers, etc need to pay their bills and all.

No idea how much bandwidth I use up these days, if there's an event (E3 for example) I'll end up watching a heck of a lot of HD footage. I always opt for the higher quality versions when my crappy line permits it, probably about 4 hours or so a week - should work out how many GB that is really. Podcasts don't take up a whole lot, probably 400MB a week. Software and especially game updates/demos are killers though. Plus there's a good amount of TF2 - clocked in 40.6 hours in the last two weeks.

I really ought to work it all out but it's not easy when I'm on a LAN plus Wi-Fi. My router isn't particularly helpful and the ISP doesn't provide any data so I have to assume it's under 40GB a month.

Since I'm not likely to start using less bandwidth, I'm going to have to upgrade due to Sky's new bandwidth caps. They're dropping my tier (Mid package) from 40GB per month to 10GB (Everyday package). Rebranding and screwing money out of their customers. How are the customers informed? Simply adding a leaflet in with the monthly magazine. If I hadn't heard about this elsewhere I'd have popped it in for recycling without even looking. It's "only" an extra £5 a month but I'm only going to be paying that for the additional bandwidth. My line is incapable of maintaining a stable 8Mbit connection let alone up to 20. Money grabbing sods.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
