    BBC Grammatical/Punctuation Errors

I've just emailed them to notify them about an incorrect apostrophe in one of their articles, and realised half-way through doing it that as an 18 year old I probably shouldn't be doing this in my spare time, especially considering it isn't the first time I've done it.

So Hexus, I ask you whether my worst fears are true.... am I a sad pseudo-old git?

    Re: BBC Grammatical/Punctuation Errors

There have been a handful of BBC technical articles that have been incorrect that I've mailed them about. To be fair, they've always corrected them quickly

It's usually just stupid small things, but something people in technology would pick up quite easily.

If you've ever had an email from a BBC journalist you'll know exactly how bad grammar is at the BBC, most of them can hardly string a sentence together let alone spell, as for punctuation....

That kind of thing really annoys me too, so you have my sympathy, especially as it is the BBC and I presume you pay for a T.V licence. The BBC is meant to have high standards... although to be fair the fact they update their website every second is bound to result in some errors here and there.

    Re: BBC Grammatical/Punctuation Errors

Today, the BBC reports that Harry Redknapp said this:

"You cannot have two many good players. Competition for places is what it is all about. Look at Manchester United, you could pick two teams from their squad last year."

    Re: BBC Grammatical/Punctuation Errors

hm, was that cut and pasted then? really hope so )

I really am a bit of a stickler for not only grammar, but pronunciation, spelling and the correct manner in which the teacup should be held when the minister enters the room on a tuesday afternoon.

Misplaced apostrophes bug me, commas where a semicolon should be annoys me, incorrect use of their, they're or there drives me into an apoplectic or even an apocalyptic rage.

Well, they used to, and now we are in the cell phone generation, where everyone speaks in txt language no m@ttr wot u find ez 2 read

( that actually hurt my sensibilities)

I can forgive the occasional typo or lack of use of an apostrophe, especially when quoting footballers, because lets face it, when you are getting paid a couple million quid a year to play or manage a team, spelling really doesn't come into it, so why should the journalist spend that extra hour or so just to earn a wage.

We ain't all perfectionists in the english language, some of us even resort to quaint american colloquialisms
We're only here for the Banter - The Luvvies - Chewin' The Fat

Violence and Lubrication is the solution to fixing everything, if it still doesn't work, you need more lubrication.

Totally agree Dareos, the English language is steadily being eroded away txt msg by txt msg.

I'm brown (yo..), when I come out with points like this in real life I love the surprise on some peoples' faces.

I'm like that sometimes. For example, I was watching a program about snipers a few days ago when they mentioned the 'Barrett AS50' - if you know much on this subject you will know the AS50 is made by Accuracy International, a British company, not Barrett.
I also noticed a shop in town called 'Shush! Don't tell your friend's'!!! Since when has there been an apostrophe there? Strange thing is, there is another shop somewhere else where there is no apostrophe?

Driving me mental this week, I think I've read about 6 dodgy articles in the last two days, although some you could call typos.

He supplied the later to one customer in plain packets
