    Bring back Corporal Punishment

....although he may have gone too far.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/n...re/8145486.stm

I first heard this on the news and my first thought was 'bit the little sod deserved it'. All and sundry jumped on the bandwagon to declare it a tragedy, but I bet they're thinking the same thing

    Re: Bring back Corporal Punishment

What did the kid do? Unless he slept with the teacher's wife and daughter at the same time then posted the video on YouTube, I can't quite think what he could have done to 'deserve it' o.O

I'd like to know the whole story behind this as i can't decided till i know if the kid had wound him up.

When i remember at school some children would really push it to far.

It doesn't say what the teacher tried, or what he *thought* provoked it.

It is certainly serious, but I hope relevant lessons can be learned... teachers are expected to cope with a hell of a lot with little to no backup.

    I'm not condoning murder though.

who puts the thanks button where the quote should be...

the teacher probably threw a dryboard wiper at the kid, it bounced off one and hit the kid sitting next to him... the kids parents then went sue happy or something...

or it could be more sinister, either way, Im not passing judgement until i hear the whole story...

    Re: Bring back Corporal Punishment

    I'm not surprised one bit.
It's only a matter of time before something like this would happen.

Good. Sorry but If that kid every gets well again maybe the little git will think twice about being annoying

I know it does not say what exactly triggered this off but more than likely the kid gave him so much crap that the teacher snapped and had a good go at making sure he does not breed in later life.

I know what I am saying is harsh but something needs to be done. Because whatever is being done to tackle the problem with kids is not helping. The problem is getting worse. And teachers need more help with children like this.

I really hate children. Maybe the teacher should have filmed it and put it up on Youtube to show to all their fellow teachers. I bet that would be a right laugh.

Yeah, beating a kid so he ends up in serious condition in hospital and putting it on the web. Hilarious.

    Re: Bring back Corporal Punishment

You know, when I saw the photo of the kid the first thing that came to my mind was "what a little brat, I bet he's trouble".

Its terrible of me and extremely judgemental, but I'd love to have a documentary on the boy's parents.

A teacher who has got that far in life, does'nt usually just flip.

Yep. You know, It would be interesting to see how some of these kids get a taste of their own medicine. Although the trouble with that is adults really get punnished by the law.

And another that comes to mind. if you go to work and are having to put up with bullying on a day to day basis you would expect to be able to go to your employer and for them to put an end to it. Legally it is your right to go to work and not be bullied and ridiculed every day.

And ending up in a serious condition in hospital? Well this teacher could easily end up in hospital. With the stress. Become depressed and more.

I know these are extreme comments and that it has yet to confirm the teacher was agrievated. But I find it hard to believe that that teacher just snapped for no reason.
It cannot be nice take so much crap that you can no longer go on to do your job anymore.
Even if he does not go to prison, his teaching career is over.

Surely this isn't enough to justify Attempted Murder though - the teacher's been charged with seriously trying to kill the kid.

My first reaction, too, was that the kid was probably deserving of a slap and it simply went too far. There are some kids who play it very close to the line, and know that there's nothing teachers can do, especially since schools are so reluctant to exclude/suspend pupils.

The kid probably said the wrong thing. The teacher had been recently treated with 'stress-related problems' - not surprising with the amount of crap teachers have to put up with in most schools.

Can you provide an example where a student has beaten up a teacher, that has resulted in them being in 'serious condition' in hospital and not been punished by the law please?

To date, there has been no suggestion that the student started a fight with the teacher first, either.

    Re: Bring back Corporal Punishment

There are many other ways for pupils to put teachers in hospital or out work other than simply beating them up. As one the previous posts said, teachers end up being depressed, bringing anger at home towards their own family etc.

Though this isn't put on the news as its not as exciting as the current story, we, the reader are always searching for more than just an average case of depression.

    Re: Bring back Corporal Punishment

I'm curious as to what set him off, but wouldn't surprise in the least if one of the kids found a sorespot and prodded it incessantly just to get a reaction.

All in all, the vague notion that sir might get sick of you crap one day and beat you to death with his Garfield coffee mug might be good for school discipline.

In all seriousness teachers have to take all sorts with absolutely no recourse, I remember seeing teacher's leave classroom's in tears and those responsible being told not to do it again for the 4th time that week. It was quite common knowledge that they weren't allowed to suspend or expel anyone else, the only actual punishment they had was 'isolation' a small room with 4 desks and cameras. As it only had 4 desks in a school of over 1600 there was never any room and the pupils knew it.

It was only a matter of time before a teacher snapped from the kids doing whatever they liked then telling the teacher to their face there was nothing they could do and being completely right.

    Re: Bring back Corporal Punishment

I read in one of the papers that the teacher was often talking to himself and acting oddly after
coming back to work. Apparently the kids were taking the piss... which I can believe.

I cant say I have much sympathy for the kid, but thats based on what I remember from being at
school rather than knowing what actually happened.

Under what circumstances is it deemed acceptable to cause enough injury to land someone in hospital other than in self-defence?
