    Quantum Meter

Anyone else have one of these?
We have one and a few weeks ago our gas stopped working because we had run out of credit even tho i was sure we had some on the meter
I kept an eye on things after topping up again and evan though we didnt use the gas it was still charging us i think it was about 50 pence a day.
I have been away for 2 weeks and left the meter with £20.01 on it. I checked it last night so the heating (the only thing in the house that's gas) hasn't been on for 15 days and its now gone down to £11.63.
I did get a call from british gas while we were away to say its because the meter is now charging us at tier 2 for some reason - but i must admit i didnt really the explanation.
If we are not using any gas why are we being charged (i thought that was the idea of a quantum meter) - can anyone explain it? is this normal behaviour?

many thanks i know this is a long shot but i dread talking to call centers and if anyone else has had a simelar experince it might help me understand things

    Thanks

Sounds like you might have a leak somewhere after the meter, could be tiny and you might not notice.

Or do you live in a block of flats renting the property, I've known of suspect landlords to steal electricity off thier tennatns maybe they are doing the same with your gas? But I suspect a leak is more likely.

You really would be better off talking to the supplier. They will know what tariff you are on (and why), and how it works, together with the charges and so on.

You may find that the change means that you pay a lower price per unit of energy, but also pay a daily standing charge regardless of the gas consumed (which is how some contract tariffs work), whereas the other tariff had a higher cost/unit, but no standing charge. But as I say, only your supplier can answer the questions applicable to your situation.
