If you want to be remembered...

    Buy property.

When your grandkids or greatgrandkids try to do genealogy, it's the only way they'll be able to find a record of your existence outside of vital records.

If you rent your whole life, they'll never know where you lived or be able to track you movements.

Re: If you want to be remembered...

You could buy a plot of land somewhere and rent it out (as a future investment). They're pretty cheap - in the range of thousands to tens of thousands (compared to hundreds of thousands for a property). Plus you can rent it out to farmers for grazing or to stables.

Property is one of the best investments you can have generally though.

http://www.uklanddirectory.org.uk/la...le.asp?id=5703 Half an acre of woodland for 5 grand, albeit no planning permission.

Typically it'll cost a LOT more if there's already a property on the land, or if planning permission has been granted. Certainly you could make a fair amount of money buying up land and getting permission to build, and then selling it on to developers.

Yeah, GREAT argument for buying property in the middle of the biggest slide in property values this country is (IMO) ever likely to see.

Personally, I'd like to be remembered for doing something noble. And in any case, as others have said, I'm already on the 1981, 1991 and 2001 census records (the latter as a Jedi, IIRC).

Re: If you want to be remembered...

Whilst that might of been sage advice in the past, i doubt it applies today.

You could just as easily get yourself arrested, by say taking a picture of a policeman (if your lucky enough to find a *real* one, not the diet coke brand). That way will there not also be the criminal charges on file, but also, your DNA, helping your relatives prove their relation too you, and that they are not just the milkmans.

Re: If you want to be remembered...

Simple really, use a time capsule if you want to be remembered. Put an opening date of something like 80 years time. Stick it in the ground in the garden shed or under a patio or something like that, but put in a note saying do the same again adding to what is already there. That way you have physical items from your life and you.

I got my name on a paper in a journal. (And have another one coming if I can get the results) Hopefully they'll be able to find be through that. Much cheaper than buying property as well

Surely if you want your details to become distributed far and wide, forever and a day, beyond anyone's ability to remove your existance you should do one of the following...
    reply to a spam email...
    request a double glazing quote....
leave all the ticks when installing ... well .... virtually anything these days.

If only being a first time buyer was easy huh? You could always just become a terrorist, seems more people know of Osama Bin Laden than know that Tony Blair is no longer our Prime Minister.
