    SKY HD frozen

    Hello,
ive had sky HD for around 2 months.
    It has frozen twice.

I have followed the instuctions on how to reset it and it works after that.

first time was around a month ago second time was around 10minutes ago. i turned it on from standby and it wouldnt respond to remote anymore. the tv guide main menu came up as frozen if i pressed the button on the box.

    its a samsung box.

has anyone else had there box freeze every so often?
it still has the old EPG atm.

if i complain to sky will they acually do anything?

    Re: SKY HD frozen

I've had it happen a few times with my Thomson box - usually at the end of a recording as it seems to do something like finalising the recording - solid lockup.

My box is around 18 months old, but as I'm spending an inordanate amount of time away from home added to the fact I'm moving soon it has been low on my list of priorities to get fixed. It doesn't happen with any regularity, but is more than slightly annoying when it does happen as you usually lose the recordings too...

I've had my old sky Panasonic box for around 7 years and it keeps freezing up, haven't got round to calling them yet though as my mum is the one who's always watching tv.

Have you tried forcing an EPG update? (I'm not sure if this is the same as resetting it) To update it, unplug the power cable, hold in the back-up button on the unit (NOT on the remote) and plug the power cable back in whilst keeping the back-up button held down. The unit should switch on with all the lights on the front on also, if connected by scart you should get a message on the TV screen saying updating system software.......

Its been a while since i had to play with any Sky boxes, so i cant remember all the details, but this MAY remove any recorded TV you have.

Like i said above, its been a while since i played with any sky boxes, so the exact details may have changed. They used to have a tech support service where you paid £40 and they would send someone to fix it. That fix did include a replacement box if it was needed.

    Re: SKY HD frozen

That reminds me - anyone else get regular GOP corruption on Sky+HD? Only tend to get it on SciFi HD but it might occur 3-4 times in a programme
