Harry Patch has died, aged 111. Another great loss to the world following so soon after Henry Allingham.
Rest in peace, Harry. The world is a better place for your innings.

I took delivery of Kitchener's Last Volunteer and The Last Fighting Tommy this morning, which was also a little spooky.
Spooky for us as well, as this morning we have been watching the last Tommy on the "yesterday" channel, and allot of it was about Harry. Was just on wikipedia reading up on his life and history and saw that it was being updated with his passing at that moment This program is being repeated again at 16:00 if anyone didnt see it. Very moving,
RIP Harry - another legend has passed away.
I think he was the last UK veteran to have served in the First World War. I guess when you are the last one and only have memories left... Very sad though
But then, Old Soldiers never die, they just fade away. We owe all of you a great debt that can never be completely repaid.
RIP & thanks Harry, naturally been in one's thoughts since the news about Henry Allingham. Hard to imagine we'll see men of that very particular breed again - not that brave men are any less brave today, but that period in time has gone, & the world moved on & altered with it, for good or bad.
RIP Harry

We owe you and owed you in equal measures, for our freedom and our ability to be ourselves.
