eep!
The impact from the spring looked really nasty, must of had a huge amount of force behind it to knock him out cold with a helmet on, hope he makes a full recovery.
They should make a new rule: windscreens mandatory
Poor guy, hope he gets better soon.
Sky "Daily Mail with video" News have now reverted to "serious but stable".
He's in an induced coma, from which they apparently still plan to wake him tomorrow morning. It's life threatening in nature, but I don't think there were any complications during the operation and if so it's merely a matter of monitoring him overnight to make sure there are no underlying issues and then take it from there in the morning.
Given the tragedy of last weekend we could have done without any incident, let alone one so chillingly similar.
Can only hope he gets better soon, it did look quite nasty. With 2 deaths in racing last week it's not a particularly nice time for the sport.
I hope Felipe makes a full recovery.
A split second can change a person's life forever. I wonder if the safety of motor sport has been pushed beyond its limit?

That German video shows a lot more detail than the BBC did. You can see how he pressed both pedals after being knocked unconscious, explaining the odd braking skid marks.
It was odd (and I think Martin Brundle mentioned it) that the torque tube was bouncing around when there didn't appear to be any other activity in front of Massa. Looking at the reply, it just seems to appear out of nowhere.
Hope he makes a full recovery.
so basically... helmets are pointless?
Apparently he's out of surgery now and stable. Still under anaesthetic until tomorrow morning. Hope he pulls through and can race again.
No, not at all. The amount of force behind that lump of metal would have been immense, probably comparable to a high calibre bullet. If it weren't for his high quality helmet, he would have died instantly. With his helmet there's now a good chance he'll live.

Been working night shift so missed the qualifying today. I was shocked to hear Massa had been hurt. Although not a great fan of his i do hope he makes a quick and full recovery. Does anyone know who will fill his car for future races?? As i'm sure this will put him out until next season.
