    going bald

well thanks to my ancestors im slowly losing my hair (the picture is Queeg from Red Dwarf not me), and i really dont want to. im trying "remedies" at the moment, and am considering one of those laser combs to stimulate the follicles. has anyone had any experiences with them or any other so called cures?

Embrace it, and shave what's left off. Much easier

I'd be inclined to agree with Tumble - you're going to have to face it sooner or later. That said I did once know someone who tried regaine and had a decent result though he hadn't really receded that far and he would quite happily say that it was bloody expensive and that any new hair would fall out the moment he stopped using it.

    Re: going bald

Agree with Tumble!!! I will loose my hair that a fact! Only 24 atm so a good few years before it all goes. But, when it does happen I will just shave it all off as i don't see the point of trying fight a loosing battle. But each to their own!!

If you really want to keep your maybe you should have some hair transplants done. A few Hollywood actors have had good success with that.

    Re: going bald

Well, I am 28 and my hair has already got to the point where I just shave it all off. To be honest it saves me going to the barbers and is much easier to maintain than hair was so there is an upside. If there was a wonder drug with no side effects then yeah id go for it, but really I would never do anything that required a lot of work/cash/pain/unwanted side effects.

    Re: going bald

I was 19 (nearly 25 now) when my MPB started. I had beautifully thick hair, prior to my crown thinning. Shaving my head for the first time was one of the most soul crushing events of my life.

Best advice I can offer is buy a decent pair of balding clippers (Wahl are pretty good), and find a razor that doesn't slice your scalp to shreds - then buy up all the stock you can find of them, in case the manufacturer discontinues them. The razor you use on your chin won't necessarily be good enough for your head.

    Re: going bald

Fortunately I am blessed with my father hair rather than my grandfathers, my dad is in his 70s and still has his hair, something my grandfather didn't. As my father would say the only thing that has happened to him is he now looks extinguished (As mine is dyed back also not a problem for me). I am 38 now and my hair is still full (and also long), so things are looking up. I told myself along time ago when my hair thins its all coming off. Nothing worth than a comb over in my book! Fortunately I already have a hat some suggested I just staple my hair to the inside of it and no one would ever know.

    Re: going bald

I've got it the other way round oolon. My dad is going on 70 and has got a full head of frizzy hair whereas his dad was "a bit thin on top". I seem to have missed out on the frizz (something that I was grateful for when I was younger). Now I am going the way of my grandfather.
Bit embarassing when your dad has more hair than you and takes the mick about it.

    Re: going bald

In my opinion, nothing in the worlds of male grooming and fashion are sadder than the comb-over. If you're losing it, and I am, man up, accept it and move on. The world doesn't end with a bit of hair loss.

If there was a wonder drug with no side effects then yeah id go for it, but really I would never do anything that required a lot of work/cash/pain/unwanted side effects.
That about sums it up. If there was some cheap wonder treatment that I could rub on and regain my own hair, great. But there isn't, and probably never will be. Personally, I'm not shaving it all off though. I just carry on having pretty much the same haircut as I have for years ..... it just gets a bit quicker to do each year.

    Re: going bald

Sadly my grandfather on my mothers side died young in a railway crash so I don't know the answer to that one. I still have it when/if it fall out, I intend to wear a lot more hats, it gets cold in winter! I have no interest in giving drugs companies money for snake oil to try and save it.

Nope, but she hasn't changed her price in years either. I reckon the hair loss is counter-inflationary ..... instead of prices going up, her time requirement goes down.

    Re: going bald

I am the same as Gaz, been loosing the old hair slowly since I was 17 :/

Now at the age of 28 the top grows thin so I just shave it all off. Also saves on the hassle in the morning of having to comb your hair
