    Quick question about contracts

    Hi all,
I've finally graduated from uni with my IT degree so I've been looking for a job. I have an interview tomorow with a training company tomorow which claims its students can work in blue chip companies, where training would be free provided you work for them for 2 years. I've heard mixed reviews about this company, which have raised a few eyebrows such as owing them £20,000 if you don't work for them, which would cover the cost of training. I've also read that you can sign the contract which 'locks' you into their programme straight after the interview, which sounds abit dodgy.

My question would be, can I ask to take the contract (assuming I am offered it) away to look at? It just sounds abit dodgy considering I could owe them £20,000!

    Cheers,

My wife works in HR and she believes that a good employer would expect you to take away the contract read it and sign it. Generally speaking most reasonable employers would not expect you to read and sign a contract straight after an interview.

Regarding training and costs assoicated most employers if they are paying for employees to go on training (i.e. such as a degree or diploma) would expect that employee to agree to work for them for a certain period of time. If that employee should leave before that period ends than usually there is a cost for the employee to bear but the costs to the employee should decrease over the time period.

Basically never sign a contract without first reading the terms and conditions.

    Re: Quick question about contracts

    Hey Jimbo,
thanks for the quick reply. Yeah, thats what happened to my sister after an interview with an actual employer. They let her take it away, but just wondered if there was any legal stuff behind it that I could use.

Not sure about the employer bit. The company apparently trains you through online exercises (not confirmed but through a post I read), lets you take an exam and then your ready to work for the blue chip companies. So essentially, they train you, and then outsource you to other companies.
