Ebay Nightmare Buyer - What do you think?

I recently sold a generic piece of DDR high density RAM on ebay, not mega bucks...

Now the buyer has said it's faulty as it doesn't post properly on his PC.

So I've offered him a full refund and sent him a prepaid envelope for a full refund and here's what he thinks:

Listen the memory works properly on my PC,the only thing i need 1 GB memory not 512 MB. I don't understand for what reason you had cancel the label on the box you sent me the memory card and you write 1 GB on it. So it was not a mistake, you know it well.I don't want to complicate this situation so you need first to refund me my money then i 'll send you your item.I don't to lose both my money and the ram.Hope in collaboration
    A sample of my reply
    OK, let's keep this simple.
If you think I'm trying to rip you off in some way then that's your opinion.
I have done more than I have to in offering you a full refund as this was a private sale, the listing clearly stated this is generic and the fact it doesn't work with you PC isn't my fault.
I have asked you twice to open a complaint with ebay or paypal but if you don't want to then that's up to you.
I have also said that it'll get you no more or less than I've offered.
If you decide to return the item in the pre paid envelope I've supplied please make sure you get a proof of posting to ensure I get the item back.
So I would suggest you post the item back as I've suggested or raise the complaint and see if that can help you where you feel I haven't.

You've been more than fair mate. Ignore him from now on and let Ebay + Paypal deal with it (although I don't have much faith in them ) is probably the best solution.

I've already told him that he'll get no further with ebay/paypal and there is no more I can do to avoid a negative feedback.
To be fair ebay back me up on this in the T&C's.

Re: Ebay Nightmare Buyer - What do you think?

I am a little confused, did you send him a 1GB module or was your listing for a 512MB one and he was wrong? Some modules on some machines can lose a bank, hence halving in size, not had that happen size PC100 days though. You also say this was a private sale? If it was outside ebay there is nothing he can do about it repulation wise. If it was on ebay do what ebay says. If Paypal back you up there is nothing they can do period.

Sounds to me like a con, you send a second module and he then keep both. Normal shop practice no return of the item NO refund, no return of item NO replacement. If you pay the money he will keep it and your module, and you cannot leave negative feedback.

You have what you want his money, only return it after you get your goods back minus postage of course.

It was a High Density RAM, I sold 2 and the other buyer is fine. I'd just bought them myself a few weeks earlier but not need them.

When I say Private it's as opposed to Business, there is a distinction on ebay....Private sales are buyer beware and Business are DSR....so it's on ebay so he can leave my 1st Negative feedback in 5 years....

Funny, but ebay policy is generally to get the Business seller to pay return postage and refund all P&P unless you specifically state so.

Ebay might view me as a business as my volumes are higher than average as I sell alot of the tusch I buy on there.

It really sounds to me like you have done everything you can, you cannot be expected to return his money before they return the item, as they will just disappear. I hope ebay will back you up. Let us know how it goes.

Re: Ebay Nightmare Buyer - What do you think?

He's not terribly coherent, but it sounds like he was expecting 1GB and received 512MB? Perhaps I am not understanding some sub-text when you say that it's 'generic high-density RAM', but if he did indeed only receive half what he expected, I can see his point.

Feel free to educate me if I'm reading something wrong here.

    seconded.

A link to the description would be good.

Re: Ebay Nightmare Buyer - What do you think?

Most people who've been around PC's for a while know the issue with high density DDR modules and the fact they report as 512 Mb and not 1024 Mb when inserted into certain motherboards.

As such, if you listed it as a high density 1024 Mb module then I cannot see any issue with your listing.

I must admit I'm probably slightly at fault as I listed it as 'generic' and not specifically High Density.

I don't have a problem provifing the full refund as it's par for the course if you're selling on ebay...it's just the buyers attitude....

    The original item came from:

It probably didn't help the buyer that I reused the plastic casing from a 512mb.

So did you sell this as "1GB PC3200 DDR 400 PC3200 2700 MEMORY DESKTOP 2100 RAM" to quote that ebay description?

If you did and instead sent him 512mb stick then i can see why he is annoyed. You advertised it as more. If I'm wrong please correct me.

You have a picture of the actual RAM you sent him, right - as in that listing where there's a clear label on the RAM saying it's 1GB?

Here's another identical one I sold with the buyer being happy:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=130321052274

I actually sold him him a 1gb stick, the red herring is that it was in a recycled box that had a 512mb sticker on it (all crossed out).
