I really wish I had an internet connection at home now to view some of these.

I'd be crying laughing at the flying cars and robot cleaners they expected us to have by now.

If you check out the really old old videos you'll notice a certain "patronising tone" in the way they are telling the women that these devices will make their homework easier and the way the videos are filmed is hilarious as well.

You can tell when tomorrows world used to be an all male staffing before the women were allowed in during the 1960's

I think I remember breakfast news mention this Monday morning, but then completely forgot about it. Used to watch it all the time as a kid. IIRC, there was a car that could park sideways (wheels turing 90 degress), a car with loads of cameras to follow white lanes on motorways and I think lasers being used to read records in a record player. Oh, and a VR machine to play games in! Was looking forward to that one...

Thing is, most of those ideas have more or less been implimented in one way or another. You have cars with hyper-mobile wheels to ease parking, self-driving cars are nearly ready for military use, lasers to read a record led to CD's and the VR machines aren't a whole lot different to the idea of the nVidia 3D games....

    I distinctly remember this one.

It was when CDs were well entrenched as the major media format, but this was supposed to be for audiophiles. It meant they could play records as many times as they wanted and not suffer and wear or tear. I think it used 5 different lasers, two to read the track (left and right side) and three to position it as well as track the surface to cope with warped records.

I think they were supposed to handle warped LPs much better than traditional players. The unit looked like a Laser Disk player.

edit: I can't watch them from Norway

Is it really random that I can remember there being 5 lasers as well? I really do remember some random crap sometimes!

The VR machines I remember were the ones where you stood in them and had the massive helmet type goggles. Think they were shooting arrows at each other. I guess you could get pretty close nowadays with the nVidia thing combined with 360 head/body tracking and Wii type remote.

That is random. I have no idea why that particular feature stuck with me so clearly. I used to watch TW religiously.
