    Quick questions regarding ebay

    Iv seen a few high end mobiles(N97 etc) where people have bid £700-£1100+ for them, for no apparent reason. They are identical phones, nothing special about them but someone has randomly doubled the current bid/usual price they go for.

    Why do they do this, is it just to cause trouble? Or is it someone who is genuinely that interested in getting the phone they pay whatever it takes?

    eg;
    3 times the average end price;

    Re: Quick questions regarding ebay

    They are probably idiots causing trouble. If the seller is reputable and has a decent feedback then I don't see why these phones are not legit. Particularly as you can buy an N97 offline for £435 genuinely.

    Probably just a case of over ambitious shill bidding.

    People bidding to take competing auctions out of the running, encouraging others to bid on their phones?

    I bet the bidder wants to pay by western union as well

    Mobile phones are one of the best things on fleabay which attracts various scammers from Nigeria.

    Re: Quick questions regarding ebay

    The genuine looking bidding finished at about £260. After that the two highest bidders had <10 feedback and one was newly registered. No doubt the winning bidder will ask if they can pay by Western Union and have it sent to their cousin's dog who is currently staying in London.

    Re: Quick questions regarding ebay

    Its usually a mixture of the 2 reasons stated above

    1) a scammer willing to pay over the odds as long as you refund part of a cheque he sends
    2) If the bid goes ridiculously high very early into the auction then its usually pointing to competitive sabotage!
