This is my view as well, although I prefer if they don't do it my room. Instead, I've had my window wide open and 3 or 4 of them help keep the flies out nicely. However, just to make sure both them and flies stay out, there's also a mosquito net across the window as backup.

In my old room, one of those big house spiders made a (messy) web just above the curtains that was very effective. Flies would bounce against the window, making their way up until they they bounced of the window and straight into the web. Brilliant!

I've never been scared of spiders, nor a particular lover of them and have always been happy to escort them safely outdoors - even in cupped hands in order to show to my then young children that they shouldn't be afeared.
    But....
I'm not sure what the latest big species is in my house - about 4-6 inches and extremely stroppy.
Seen a couple of them. First time went to carefully trap it in a glass and the evil creature jumped at me. And kept on doing so every time I went near, until I was unnerved by the thing and just relieved when I managed to get it outside.
I may have to buy one of those spider vacuums they have at places like Lakeland.

Of course this is GOOD news for people who don't like flies and other creepy crawlies that spiders love to eat!

    1. They're tiny
    2. If you felt threatened by a spider, just squash it if your that worried
    3. It's very rare you see a spider in England that could poison or kill you
    4. Spiders eat pretty much every other insect (more spiders=less flying annoying creatures)

Well that's what I think anyway

Love spiders, and i would never kill one
Well, I used to think that way too until I watched an episode of the Dilbert TV show.

Dilbert: It's my worst fear come true!
Dogbert: That a pregnant spider will crawl up your nose while you're asleep and lay eggs in your head?
Dilbert: ...Ok, my second worst fear.

I took one out of my house last night - it was one of those massive ones that protrudes out from under the glass rim.... funny looking too - I've read somewhere that spiders used to have 10 legs miwwions of years ago, and the 2 front ones evolved into the fangs - some spideys still have jointed fangs - like vestigal legs, and that's what I had last night, just a bit bigger than the palm of your hand......

Indeed, the number of spiders I've seen might have gone up but I ain't seen a moth bouncing off my t.v in days

Anyone that's that concerned about spider infestations needs to think outside the box a little and just add a new keystone species to the house, vinegarroons seem like a good choice

Re: Some bad news for people who don't like spiders.

Think of it this way, over population of spiders there won't be enough food for them to eat and they will die out. So next year will be manageable. I don't mind them, its just the thought of one falling in my mouth while I am sleeping or crawling over me which makes me shudder! The film arachnophobia made me look at spiders a whole different way when I was a kid!
