However it takes a lot more thought and effort to read those sentances than it does to read those that have been typed up properly

    (\___/) (\___/) (\___/) (\___/) (\___/) (\___/) (\___/)
    (='.'=) (='.'=) (='.'=) (='.'=) (='.'=) (='.'=) (='.'=)
    (")_(") (")_(") (")_(") (")_(") (")_(") (")_(") (")_(")

Ofcourse, it's still amazing to see how the human mind functions though.

    Re: Can you read this?

There is a difference in my opinion. The OP goes some way to showing how the human brain reads words, and indeed if you skim read it I find it takes only slightly longer to read than normal spelling. I think it also has some interest value as a result, although obviously would be annoying and pointless if employed in regular posts. Txt speak on the other hand is not remotely interesting; it is a device invented purely to annoy those who passed GCSE English and to broadcast to the world that you are too cheap to pay for two texts.

It doesn't quite have the same traits of 'txt' speak, all the letters must be in the word for it to work. Text speak takes out several letters or replaces the word with something much shorter for the purpose of saving time.

    Re: Can you read this?

Strangely enough I had more trouble with PAOMNNEHAL than the rest of your post.
I think that's down to the word starting with "ph" and not "pa"
Language is spoken not just written so phonetics must also be considered.

Also a lot of the short 2 and 3 letter words play key roles in sentance structure, so incorrectly spelt words are far eaiser to decypher when the context is understood.

EDIT:txt speak is different, it's origins come from the eairly days of txt messages, where the total characture count per txt message was far lower and there was no predictive spelling.

It might also help if it had the correct constituent letters anyway. It should have an extra 'E' instead of the second 'A'.

    Re: Can you read this?

I saw a version of this years ago. It was a longer paragraph and I had got a fair way though it before I even noticed that the words where not spelt correctly. Oddly enough, I stumbled over the word research (which appeared much later in the version I read). When I checked it actually had a letter missing. The human mind is a very strange device.

it is a device invented purely to annoy those who passed GCSE English and to broadcast to the world that you are too cheap to pay for two texts.
I used to type a text using normal spelling, and then shorten as required to make it fit in one message. That was back when I was pay as you go. Now I'm on contract and don't care. I sent a text the other day where the fullstop after my name at the end of the text was in a message all of its own. I wonder what the environmental cost of that fullstop was?

LiKe ThIs As It MaKeS yOu LoOk RaThEr SpEcIaL
Thats horrible. Please don't do it again! Maybe its becuase I'm a programmer and used to using a change in case to indicate a new word, or do others find it equally distressing?
