Help me find a TV for the mother-in-law....

I know, i know, the mother-in-law jokes will be coming a-plenty i'm sure.
    Take my mother-in-law.
No, really, please take her! Etc.

Anyway, she's asked me to help find her a new TV.
    She wants:
32" (or possibly 26", but 37" is too big)
Freeview (easy, they all will have i'm sure)
Built-in-DVD for convenience and less wires
    Silver bezel preferably
Cheap as chips (ie £300 range should be fine)

    She isn't:
    An audiophile
Barely able to tell the difference between SD and 720p, never mind "Full HD"
Interested in future up-gradability (ie a single HDMI will be fine)

My intention is to give her a Western Dig HD TV and rip a load of her current DVDs, again more for her ease of use than quality per se.

    So far i've found:
    Tesco Technika 32" for £299.
But it's Technika! I know she wont care, but i'd rather get a brand name TV if possible.
    Thanks guys & gals!

You'll struggle to find a decent TV with an inbuilt DVD player at the 32" size.

I'd be suggesting a basic Samsung and one of these:

Can be operated from one remote, simple and surprisingly good picture quality

Indeed, i actually have that model myself!
But alas, built in DVD is a part of the requirement...

The sort of people that ask for a built in DVD player in a Silver 32" tv, tend to be those sorts of people that buy Technika from Tesco's , just let her buy it, it will come warranty the same as any other branded tv.

I think you are missing the point a little. MSIC actually wants to get his mother in law a lasting piece of quality technology, because he cares. And also he knows that if he says "Go on, get the Technika", that he will be blamed for this for eternity, his opinion on completely unrelated subjects will be ridiculed and he'll be forced to sit at the children's table come the Ruby anniversary of his in laws, along with that cousin that likes to melt things and Auntie Mabel who has had too many sherries and is crying quietly into her beard.

So, my advice is to press the point of the separate DVD player, explain how easy they are to operate and offer to set everything up, then print out a big guide in bold letters explaining it again, that they can read at their leisure, and get a normal TV

Not saying that this will work.... but at least when the Technika breaks, you can say I TOLD YOU SO, in a very quiet and understated way, while on holiday, preferrably out of the hearing of anyone else ever.

Re: Help me find a TV for the mother-in-law....

Personally I wouldn't worry in the slightest about buying a Technika TV. In my experience Yum Cha* LCD kit is largely indistinguishable from brandname stuff. I've had an 'Easy Touch' 42" full HD for a year now- £500 from Amazon, bought to watch the Olympics in HD. It's solidly made (in Poland apparently) and it looks stylish enough. When I can actually be bothered to watch any telly, HD from my V+ box still looks seriously impressive to me.

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if a lot of the noname LCDs were made in the same factories with the same panels and electronics as the brand name manufacturer's low end kit. If you're paying 70-100% more for a given size telly than the cheapest available, and buying into a Manufaturer's 'quality' range (Bravia/Viera/Aquos etc.) then you'd expect to get the latest panels and picture processing tech. But a £400 Sony/LG vs a £300 Technica? I would be very surprised if there was a noticeable difference in build or picture quality.
