Micro Men: 9pm tonight on BBC4

Alexander Armstrong and Martin Freeman star in this comedy drama telling the story of the race for home computer supremacy during the 1980s. Clive Sinclair and former colleague Chris Curry go head to head in a battle to achieve domination of a growing market, triggering the beginning of the UK computer revolution.

Saw a trailer for this the other day and thought some people might be interested in it.

Well I watched it on BBC4 at 11.30 last night, thought it was very good, and brought back alot of nostalgia, I had a BBC Micro when I was a kid and loved it to bits.... the thrill of going to have dinner whilst it took half an hour to read a tape to load up various games.

BBC needs to do more programs like this, am very much enjoying the current slew of technology based programming on the beeb "Electric Revolution".... Charlie Brooker included

really makes you wonder what would have happened if Sinclair and Curry had really been driven on the same product, rather than different ones.

watched it last night on iplayer, really really enjoyed it.

It did make me wonder what sinclair would make of the fact that 20 odd years after the ZX81 there was some bloke lying in bed watching a show about him on his computer by streaming it over the internet. Apparently he doesn't use the internet himself despite predicting a computer in every home (according to wiki anyway)

My first computer was an acorn electron in fact, it had hardly any games IIRC and I needed a massive brick 'interface' to use my joystick. To be honest, it is probably down to experiences with that machine that make me the geek that I am today.

Just finished watching and really enjoyed it. Quite funny, and very interesting for someone who wasn't around for long in the 80s

Yep the days of typing a game in from a mag, getting to the end, and finding they had made a mistake when printing it
Or another favourite, many homes still had 50p electric meters, and it told you that your 50p had run out buy turning the electric off, rather irratating if you were half way through typing a prog in.

I started on a zx81 + 16k ram pack, then C64 (even had a 5 1/4" floppy drive), then amiga a500, then amiga A1200. I had a fully working "office" suite on the c64 called GEOS, complete with mouse and 9pin dot matrix printer. Last thing I added was a modem, had to drill a hole in the back of the old dial phone to wire it in.
