at least he didnt set off on the boat and having the engine fail in the middle of his crossing, as he'd be right-royally fooked.

if war is the answer, then we are asking the wrong question

Well not only did they ave an engine fail there and have to crawl along to liverpool doing about 22 knots. there was also a fight onboard ship about halfway over , men who had had too much to drink and just started hitting people! so the police had to go on and pin them down.... was about an hour from tieing up in liverpool to them actually getting off. And the cars couldnt get off cos one of the buggers had escaped down to the car deck and had to be chased

Through no fault of our own it was around 3am when we crashed

That doesn't sound very good - 22knots aint bad, well - what boat is it? When we go over to the Isle of man averaging around 20knots is good going (esp with the 6(IIRC) knot limit in the hamble).

Tumble sez: Twas the super seacat 2.. got 4 engines.. usually goes at around 34/36 knots... took us an extra hour last night. The old slow boats usually go about 18/20 knots, which is why it takes 3.75 hours usually

Heheh - thats quite a ship

My grandad has a speedboat come yacht kinda thing (removable mast, not very big). Seen it at 26 knots before although normally can get around 20. Its good fun to drive, dunno if I'm supposed to legally but he doesn't mind

Tumble sez: aye.. don't think there's any rules as such about driving boats under a certain size.. one of my mates has a 5.5m RIB.... we go wakeboarding off the back of it (I say we, I mean them.. I'm rubbish ) That's a hoot to drive..and we "accidentally" overtook the Seacat once... the GPS doo-dat said we were doing 40 mph, whilst we were flying off the top of it's wake.. and I mean FLYING!!

    *grin*
My dad went and bought a new 200hp 4 stroke engine for his boat last week - the 150 4 stroke could do 34 kts, this can do 46kts on his config - 6m tasty boat!
*grin* can't wait to go back home and go fishing!
It's one of the main reasons I hate ferries! Over in Sydney they're great - no pressure, no rush - nice and fun, but when you're actually intending to go anywhere, I think they're a waste of time!
