Banned from XBOX Live.... Is this guy for real?
I don't know whether to believe what I've just read or not lol
http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/te...0/10002915.stm
So a lad chips his xbox and gets banned for it and wonders why lol then goes on to boast he's copied about 40 games and then its the last paragraph that gets me.
"To be honest, I've contemplated whether to move to Playstation 3 or buy another Xbox. I wouldn't do it again but I really don't know if I'm going to get the Xbox again now."
I can't help but laugh at this thick tard tbh. He is contemplating whether or not to get another xbox because they banned him for illegal practices lol
I really would like to think that there are people out there who aren't this thick. Moaning at £50 a game to lol the PS3 is virtually the same price to. (Don't know where he is shopping but I know the majority of us on here all get them for around the £30 - £38 mark from the offers that go around)

Just read it and was about to comment but somebody beat me. Bah!
I was in shock as well though.
The way the BBC seems to portray it is that normal gamers have been cut off.
And this lad. Suprised when he got banned! What a mug.

It's the fact they actually interviewed the guy lol I would be in stitches if the BBC were questioned about this Raz and he got a little visit xD

We all know he will get another Xbox
Simply because a PS3 will cost more for him to copy the discs IF he can do it
I'm surprised so many people are so dense about piracy. I hope drawing attention to himself gets him arrested and convicted of breaking copyright laws
Quote:
I took it into a shop [the Xbox], there was a guy back there and I asked him and he did it for me [chipped it]. He charged £75 to get it chipped but at the end of the day I said to myself I'll pay £75 to get it chipped, after two games I've paid the money back.
I've probably saved about £600 and I've copied roughly 30 or 40 games. A lot of them I've downloaded or I've taken off friends that have downloaded themselves.
Well he hasn't paid the money to the developers for the games he downloaded and didn't buy them, so deserves what he gets!
Re: Banned from XBOX Live.... Is this guy for real?
The stupidity of some people can still supprise us all, even if we think we have heard it all.
I wonder if the authorities will be in contact with him given that he has publicly admitted to pirating between 30-40 games
Re: Banned from XBOX Live.... Is this guy for real?
I don't find anything that he's said particularly surprising - clearly he hasn't considered the consequences, but I know a lot of people who did this kind of thing with the PS1.
The consideration, in a lot of cases, was more about whether the investment would pay off than whether it was the correct moral choice I think - i.e. is it worth paying £100 at the start and getting free games or should we just pay £40 per game and trade them in every so often.
Re: Banned from XBOX Live.... Is this guy for real?
He took the risk and paid the price. In fact he's got off lightly so far - those companies he pirated from could probably claim compensation if they wished.

Despite the fact that my personal opinions on "piracy" don't always align with the lobbyists for big content producers, I do feel that games publishers have a right to penalise those who obtain their games without paying.
But banning somebody from XBox Live completely? I question how much of an education this provides to those in the wrong, particularly given that there is no means of redemption. Surely a method by which they say "you've done wrong, you've been penalised in this way, here's how to make up for it" is a better way of teaching people, particularly youngsters, right from wrong.

The only issue with that is most people that pirate games know right from wrong but don't care,

My opinions on piracy are well known but you have to be a bit of a tit to whinge when you get caught and banned from Live because of it.
If you are going to pirate do it with some self respect.

So a chargeback? Work out how many games they've pirated, and say they can have the live access restored if they pay a fine equivalent to 90% of MSRP of the games they've pirated?

Well I think the very idea of intellectual property rights is nothing but theft in the first place, I mean how dare those commie gits at EA etc just think they can make use of dead Arab's numerical engine for nothing, not to mention Benjamin Franklin's leccy.

Perhaps, or prevent them playing each individual game until they pay up for it. Ultimately you're looking for a way to help the individual "make things right".
I think the current method seeks to appease the publishers without giving enough consideration towards how to get people to change their stance.
