It was never about that, we've known from day 1 that both are ultimately under Sony, but this shows that with the right grass-roots movement anything can top the chart.
Previous internet music campaigns haven't really done much, this is the first time that it has worked, and worked well.
There are certainly worse songs out there than KITNO..
One thing it has shown though, is that you really don't need much to get a top 10 single any more - anything over 27,000 copies is in the top ten, and the top five is only 40,000 copies..

The charts? The charts are about money not music. The campaign has fed that and you can bet Sony execs are laughing.
Both songs are trash imho and yet a million people have bought them to 'make a point'. Gawd.
