Tired of Simon Cowells pet karaoke project stealing the christmas number one?

Me too and the same chap who led last years campaign to try and get Rick Astley to the number one slot last christmas has a new campaign this year....

More than 43,000 people have pledged to buy an anti-authority, expletive-ridden track from 1992 by Rage Against The Machine.

They are supporting a web campaign which aims to fight Simon Cowell's perceived stranglehold over the UK charts.

The Facebook group explains: "Fed up of Simon Cowell's latest karaoke act being Christmas number one?

"Me too... So who's up for a mass-purchase of the track Killing In The Name... as a protest to the X Factor b******s?"

For the last four years, the coveted festive top spot has been dominated by the winners of the Cowell-created reality show.

Shayne Ward began the unbroken X Factor run in 2005, followed by Leona Lewis, Leon Jackson and Alexandra Burke.

The campaign's creators are suggesting fans buy Killing In The Name, RATM's debut single, on December 13 instead of the latest winner's song.

The track became infamous after it was accidentally played uncensored on Radio 1.

Jon Morter, who set up the Facebook and Twitter campaign with his wife Tracy, told Sky News Online he thought the lyrics were "very apt".

The Christmas number one is a "great tradition" that X Factor has "taken all the fun out of," he added.
If you want to join the Facebook group follow the link here - http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gi...5.946801759..1

but even if you don't like Rage Against the Machine please consider joining in on December 13th, it's for the greater good

Would love for this kind of thing to work, but unfortunately I doubt there'd be enough people to buy this song over the masses of deluded sheep lapping up Simon's mindless drivel each year...

"taken all the fun out of,"

Wouldn't it be more fun to get somebody to write a song that takes the piss out of the whole situation, then propel that to number one? Then you could use lyrics along the lines of (WARNING the following line may or may not damage your health):

"I'm all warn out cos you played Christmas songs since Octooooober"

You were warned. Only included because it came up in conversation recently...

Too true, we're gonna have to work hard to find half a million Brits with decent taste in music but the group's gaining members by the minute, literally. When I joined about an hour ago it had around 50'000 members, now it's up to nearly 70'000

Even if it doesn't steal the number one slot away from Cowell and his cronies it'll be a victory for good music if it makes it into the chart in any position

Personally I think they'd have done far better to pick a song that a) that hasn't been out for ages, b) had some mass market appeal and c) was actually something people would know!

Failing that, there's always Absolute Radio's campaign to get "Penguin" to number 1 at Christmas

exactly. i say if you still care about number 1 in the pop charts you deserve to have crap in the lead position. before cowel had the number 1 spot it was just some other crap like bob the builder, cliff richard or the teletubbies. i'd rather hear someone release a bad cover version than some annoying novelty or xmas song as at least the rest of the brain dead will try and pretend they knew the original song and play that instead to look like they didn't learn about music from watching telly on a saturday nite instead of going out socialising

I'll join in if it looks like it'll succeed. I've never bought a track online before but then Killing In The Name is an absolute classic- it also has a special place in my heart, as a classmate once played it to us in one of the music rehearsal rooms at school during a lesson where we were supposed to be composing our tracks to be submitted for our music GCSEs, or something. The teacher walked in exactly as Zack reached peak volume in his stream of "**** you!"s.

Big picture, it's not neccessarily about caring about the christmas number 1. It's about beating Simon Cowell, one of Satans very special people

Normally I couldn't give two flying rats arses what gets the christmas number one slot but It just so happens christmas is the time of year that the infernal X factor beast squats, spreads it's cheeks and unleashes whatever foul excrement the British public have used what little dole money they have left after buying embassy number ones and tracky bottoms to vote for.
