Dell engineer causing scratching on my new laptop!

Didn't know which subforum to put this in so will place it here.

So for the past year i had been saving frantically to buy a decent laptop. Decided to get an inspiron 1545.
It arrived about a week ago, after spending what seemed like a lifetime to ship from china.
So opened it up, and after an hour or 2 of use, i found it had a few dead pixels.
So on the phone to the suprisingly nice man at dell in India, he said he would send out an engineer to replace the screen.

So the engineer came today (monday). Unfortunately i wasn't at home, as i had to be at lectures/clinics all day.
My flatmate let the engineer in and he changed the lcd screen, but unfortunately the new lcd screen had some sort of fault with the backlight, and as he didn't have any spare screens in stock, he said he would order one and then fix it again in a day or 2.

Now i get home and look at the laptop, and find it has a few scratches on it that weren't there before. I have pictures of the laptop when i first got it, and there are no scratches on it:

    BEFORE

    AFTER

I am now left in a predicament. I am really not happy with the scratches, although i know they are minor, but i did spend alot of time saving up to buy a laptop, and the scratches are clearly visible when using the laptop.
How do i go about doing something about this? i am going to try and make sure i am in when he comes again, and raise the issue?

Any tips or pointers that i should do or say?

    Thanks in advance!

Contact Dell and request them to rectify the issue... (i'm presuming it was a legit Dell service engineer? and not one you found in the yellow pages or something?)

Remember to be as polite as possible, in the long run, it gets you to a resolution as quickly as possible, as well as often coming to a better resolution.

But don't just sit back and accept that damage...

That guy must have been using his elbows to hold the screwdriver

I'd just get back to Dell and tell them what happened see if they can replace/respray it

Having made quite a few dents like that in my time - (a while ago but it's bound to happen sooner or later) - they are definitely screwdriver marks. In fact, they look almost identical to the ones I made in the surface of a very very very expensive OPC drum when I dropped my 'driver on it

Did the customer ever request you to replace the plastics or anything?

Re: Dell engineer causing scratching on my new laptop!

They were never external, and it never got to the stage where the customer would say anything because I always fessed up if I even slightly snapped or damaged something. In the long run it aint worth trying to fob it off or cover it up because you'll always get found out and it's easier to just own up rather than have to explain it a couple of days/weeks later. If the chap who did your laptop has any integrity at all, he;ll hold his hands up and say "yep, that was me. Sorry" and it'll get fixed FOC.

Ring Dell, explain the situation to them (politely, but firmly) and request a solution to it. Being a replacement of said damaged parts or a replacement laptop.

Accept nothing less then a straight swop in home, within the next few days.
