It was predicted that we would get heavy snow falls last night in Edinburgh but nothing fell as far as I know and we have sunny blue skies at the moment..still quite a bit of snow on the ground but not as much as england. My sister lives in the north west and sent me some pics of her street....it looks wrecked!!
Well i tried to get up my road today and my car can normally make it up eventually but it was going know where to day.
Just sat there with all 4 of it's wheels spinning slowly sliding backwards.
-7 in Worcester and that's bad enough.
worst part i found about the hike to work this morning is that all the powder looking snow is now frozen solid! so when you are crossing the road and you find that mound along the curb, or the pileup either side of a walked path . . .there's just no give to it, you cant foot through most of it.
This will come in handy for the remainder of the bad snow - never brace your leg like its going to sink in the snow and you are moving quite fast: you look a tool when you fall and you say things to your chuckling better half which leaves you sans dinner later that night!

I have been using a pair of walking poles to help on the walk to work, suprising how much difference they make.
I spent a long weekend in the Peak District last winter, walking, and camping in conditions similar to the current weather. After following a particulalry icy path down from Kinder Scout I decided to look in to improved traction on snow and bad ice. Rather than going for proper crampons, a lot of fell runners and walkers have shifted over to Kahtoola Microspikes for wintery conditions where its a marginal decision about fitting crampons. unfortunately the current weather has made them difficult to find, but hopefully got a pair arriving next week.

I quite enjoy it to be honest.
there was something that i couldnt put my finger on these past few days when i was thinking the same, there is just ZERO motion on our estate or the surrounding streets (apart from the occasional random who thinks the best time to make sure his transit will start is to test it at full revs at 11:30pm)
but yeah, i think thats it, im just enjoying the serenity.

Well i've just managed to get out as our street had a community dig the ice off the hill so we could get out.
Never though feeling gritted tarmac would feel so good.
What dodgier tough than go up a hill is coming back down. Even with it dug out i kept thinking if i go off the tracks and onto the ice i could lose control of the car.
