A bit of a long shot...

...Seeing as not many of you live anywhere near me.. But I really need to find some big open space somewhere that I can go and practice the basics of driving, without the hassle of being on the roads. You know, basic clutch/steering/gears, all that, in some big area.

The only place round here is a place where Markets, etc, are held, and it's usually empty during the week, but the buggering security guards won't let us in.

Anyone who lives anywhere near Surrey have any idea, by chance?

find an industrial estate dude, they're the best, go down on a sunday and you'll have no hassle

are there any supermarket carparks about... they should be empty if the store is shut, or resonably empty if its not a peak time, hows the driving going anyhow? still enjoying it?

yeah i agree with knox, find an industrial estate, thats where my mum taught me the basics and where my first driving lesson was. It's perfect for practicing all the details of driving

well are there any depots for like couriers or what not near by, or a place with loads of warehouses. Failing that, a deserted car park is ideal

I started learning in a Tesco car park at about 6:00pm on Sundays - no one about. Or industrial estates are good too

yeah car parks are the best. plus its not illegal as it is classed as private land, or so i was told by a kind police officier...

U want a supermarket carpark after closing or a sunday morning when they arent open.... epsh now its lighter at night, u can go evenings as well when they arent busy and not be affected by it going dark. i learnt to reverse park on a supermarket carpark and i learnt the basics on a industrial estate

Yes, it is private land, and you are not bound by the road traffic act, but remember if there are other users, the RTA can be cited if you are involved in a collision.

I used to cruise round my university grounds and car parks on Sundays- no where near Surrey, but still a place to check out

All the car parks and industrial estates round here are pretty darned small.. But I'm sure we'll find somewhere.
