Where to find work whilst still at school?

I had a Christmas temp job which ended last month so I've spent that time looking for a new one. My CV now looks more respectable with a bit of work experience, some good qualifications, volunteer work, etc. I've handed my CV into everywhere I can think of but nowhere seems to be hiring .

I'm guessing places that I could work don't really advertise part time openings online or anything, but does anyone have any tips on how to get ANY part time work? Pretty desperate to get some work right now, I'd honestly work anywhere haha.

Handed a CV into all the obvious places - supermarkets, shops, restaurants, fast food places - and all the not so obvious ones - small independent shops, bakeries, butchers - but nowhere is looking for staff.

Anyone have any ideas of where to look that I haven't thought of?

Any ideas welcome, the time from now until I start uni will be very bleak without some cash flow .

http://www.cammonsters.com/ <--- apparently its good money (NSFW).

In all seriousness there are plenty of employers who wouldn't be wanting someone who was about to leave for uni, so whilst been honest about that, downplay it unless its a temporary job.

Is there any field you want to really get into?

Only other thing I'm aware of is slivers of time, if that's running in your area.

Have you tried your local temp agency? They might have something by way of out of hours/weekend work.

Re: Where to find work whilst still at school?

I did a whole load of painting/decorating work in school/uni holidays at a school near where I lived. It paid ok but was mind numbing. I got that by asking around friends, families and acquaintances if they knew of anyone needing some work done.

Re: Where to find work whilst still at school?

Ask a bunch of them Eastern Europeans squatting in a derelict garage whether they need another car washer.

Bar work is usually easy to come by.

I thought McDonalds would employ just about anybody?

Get a driving licence, get a car on finance and do mini-cabbing.

    Deliver the local free newspaper.

    Restaurants need waiting staff usually.

Deliver flyers offering to iorning and/or housework.

    Tele-sales (rock bottom).

And..... I've run out of ideas

If you find anywhere tell me! I'm looking too and glasgow is pretty bleak in terms of part time jobs. Bella Napoli turned me down for being to young. Morrisons apparently have no jobs. Hmm...

Re: Where to find work whilst still at school?

I got jobs at retail stores. Not very exciting and terrible pay. Was placed on the fish counter as no one else wanted to do it. Lucky I did as I now am okay at preparing fish but had to smell of fish guts for a few months! Wanted a go on the butchers counter that requires qualifications. I couldn't recommend picking up some skills if you get the chance. Had a job in a video store which was really dull but we got free rentals on the hush hush!

i would think about some work experience in your future employment as well. Write off some letters and see if you can take unpaid work experience for a week or even a few days.

Re: Where to find work whilst still at school?

I was a cleaner for the council while i was in school. Its was pretty good money (£5.50-£6.00 an hour) and the 10-15 hours a week never conflicted with class. I cleaned a school for a while which was top as i was in from 4-6 then i had the evening to myself. I also did the county council offices which was ok too as i was working 5-8 and there was barely ever any actual cleaning to be done.

If you can drive you could do mobile cleaning where you drive around and clean all the little schools in the surrounding villages. Thats pretty good work as you get petrol expenses and your own van!
