    Question Patio cleaner

Yep, that's right - patio cleaner, can anybody recommend a brand?

Two winters have turned me paving stones a yucky shade of algae green in places and I want to clean it off.

I don't have a hosepipe but I do have two large buckets so could rinse it off that way but would prefer stuff that you just pour/brush/spray on and forget about it, presumably letting the rain wash it away.

I note there are lots of different types available so that's why I'm asking if anybody has any experience of a brand they could recommend.

The one that's caught my eye so far is Jeyes, available at B & Q.

I also note that the eco-friendly cleaners seem to cost twice as much and in my experience of 'eco-friendly' products probably aren't very effective. I'd love to be proved wrong though and if the greeny product was good I'd shell out a bit more.

    Get yourself a pressure washer

Blast the mank off one slab all you'll see just how dirty the rest are. Plus you vaporise any weeds growing between them too, without any nasty chemicals.

Yup, pressure washer is the answer. Oh and any weeds, hit with boiling water for an equally eco solution.

+1 for the pressure washer, even a cheapo one will blast that green & it's soooo satisfying!

Another vote for a pressure washer.

I would reccommend a Karcher if you want a good reliable brand, I think they also come with longer warranties than most.

    Re: Patio cleaner

Pressure washers tend to need hose pipes. I suppose you could get a tap attachment to go into the kitchen/bathroom/tap room.

I haven't used chemical cleaners, but our old Karcher is great for getting the grime off the patio. It's fun writing things in the muck, as well.

    Re: Patio cleaner

Any patio cleaner will do but just use quite a concentrated mix for best effect. For the ultimate clean, combine the solution with a blast from a pressure washer.

    Re: Patio cleaner

A note of caution with pressure washers - don't use the needle sprays, it can damage the slabs, and regardless of which nozzles you use, be VERY careful of the cement. A pressure washer can easily blast it out!

    Re: Patio cleaner

Funnily enough I've just spent the last 5 hours cleaning our patios & brickwork with the pressure washer.

I've used various cleaning solutions and brick acids in the past but tbh none are generally as good or as easy as a good going over with the pressure washer. You always end up on your hands and knees scrubbing like an old fishwife or get blathered in soem nasty corrosive stuff that wrecks your clothes. And with a patio/brickwork attachment it's as easy as hoovering. If you want to go the full hog you can get brick cleaning solutions for the additive bottle on the washer but I've never bothered using it.

    Another vote for pressure washer.

Plus when it's hot in the summer and you want to cool down you can attach a bit of string to the pressure washer handle, to keep it on, and then turn it on at the wall.
The end bit will go flying round the garden at great speed and it's suprsingly entertaining to try and avoid it.

Yes i know i'm childish but don't mock me till you've tried it.
