    Any MySpace layout experts?

As the subject says, any of you jolly good chaps know their way around MySpace?

My better half has a page, and looks after another couple for bands she manages. I've offered to makes changes to them as she has reached the limits of her web design skills. However I've never used MySpace before (just signed up about 20min ago).

What I figured I would do is copy much of the data from her pages into mine, play with the layout and get her approval, then copy it back to the original pages. I have no interest in actually maintaining a MySpace account for me

    Re: Any MySpace layout experts?

It's mostly just HTML coding in each section, there are some sites that offer free designers but I can't think of any off the top of my head

    "Better half" already! Wow!#

But I would say take what she's got as a template and work with that, it's the way I would do it.

If you need a hand with anything... you know where I am

Best I could come up with, girlfriend just sounds weird to me

The HTML parts of it aren't really a problem, it's working out how MySpace deals with templates, what information you can put where, and that kind of thing.

I have her login so I'll have a play tonight when I can have both sites open side by side.

its mainly to do with CSS when you are messing with myspace....

but beware, band profiles have different ID's for most things than "standard" profiles

I used to bother with it, now myspace doesnt even get a look in

    Re: Any MySpace layout experts?

Yeah it's mainly css as said above - and a royal pain in the backside. Don't think you can convert - just go through the sign-up process again and make sure to select band/music whatever it's under these days!

Yeah I created another account on a different email address.

Amazingly the band pages are even more restrictive than the personal ones.

I can understand MySpace being this much of a pain in the ass when it first launched, but I cannot understand how they still have such a terrible system for updating and customising your layout.

Getting your hands dirty with CSS and HTML is just fine, but the fact you have to dump and inline style sheet in a random text field and edit round it is ridiculous. You can't get a template and work from that, you have very little control over elements on the page, some elements have class ids, some don't.

Why can't you have the comments column at the bottom span the whole page? why is it offset from center?

    It's a complete joke.
