Reliable gas oven needed - what is worth buying?

about 3 years ago I bought a Stoves 700GR (which is supposed to be the Flagship gas oven) and it has been a pain since day one.

I'm now so fed up with it I just want to rip it out and replace it with something that just works when needed and does the job well. The problem is the range of gas ovens seems to be extremely limited to mainly those under the Glen Dimplex umbrella (Stoves, New world and Belling).

Does anyone has any experience of a built under gas oven that actually just works well without breaking down every 5 minutes?

Re: Reliable gas oven needed - what is worth buying?

hate to tell you this... but it MIGHT be worth getting an ELECTRIC oven.. and keep the gas hob.

I lived with gas ovens for years and swore by them.... and electric to me was a rude word.

Then I got one.. forced on me when I bought this house with no gas to the oven space (but gas to the hob).. and I realised it was not just ok.. but quite good.

I KEEP my gas rings.... for speed of heat change and cos its hotter for woks and stuff.

But the OVEN... I needed a new one (Dec 08) and COULD get gas fitted to the space... but decided on electric.... cos the choice is good, the quality great and the actual cost of running it gets better by the year as gas goes up in price but electric ovens become more efficient (ie their thermal power, insulation etc)

    And so...... I must suggest.

Bosch Electric, with full self clean liners as big as you can fit.

The fan oven is great as they all are.. the rotisserie effect option (hot top element.. then fan... then top element again.. then fan etc) is amazing,...

the BOTTOM element only is awesome for pizza...

the self clean WORKS... 1 hour timer on MAX... I do it at midnight on a Sat night once every 3 months... I'm up any way... playing CoD W@W and it's cheaper at night

    timer works

    warranty is good.....

Bosch Electric... sorry.. you prolly didn't want to hear that, did ya?

Re: Reliable gas oven needed - what is worth buying?

I have come to the conclusion that electric is better but, Unfortunately I don't have a supply for an electric oven in the kitchen and I'm very reluctant to start ripping the kitchen apart and channel down the walls to fit one.

I've spoken to Stoves today and aired my views of their terribly unreliable product, which according to them has no known design faults but, they knew it needs a new circuit board

The only things is, If I pay the £105 for the clown (read stoves engineer) to come out they apparently don't charge for parts for the first 5 years. The only down side is that in the past each time they came out they managed to damage another part of the oven while they were here.

Thanks for the reply Zac - I will definitely go to electric if I move house.
