    Flipping Blinking Bureaucracy...

My ex-girlfriend was going to start a small child minding business to create some income whilst she looked after our daughter from her. From practical research and asking around she expected to make a minimum of 3-4 times what she was making on benefits.

She started the process rolling back last year and everyone in her family/connected to the house sent their CRB (criminal checks) off mid December. By mid January everyone bar mine had received theirs back. Mine had passed through every stage, except the check by the police. Coventry City police did their check of me in 3-4 days before sending it to Leicester Police, Leicester police are currently approaching the 56th day....a full 9 weeks after the ''90% of our CRB checks are done with 4 weeks'' statistics that the CRB produce.

Is this really the way this sodding country is run? My ex, who has been on benefits this entire time & is genuinely barely scraping through (see stress levels...see our relationship status) is still waiting for my form to come back (ironic as we have now broken up) and the best the CRB monkies can do is tell us to wait another 10 flipping days before they can contact the police and give them a 10 day period to write to us and inform of us a date when the check will be completed.

Contacting the Leicestershire Police? Tried that four times, four times I get different answers varying from ''We don't that a department like, try out data protection team'', or ''we don't have access to that information'' '' to ''oh yes, your in the pile to be done today'' (that was 3 weeks ago).

Bunch of utterly lazy ass, incompetent, semi-educated, hill billy oiks, the lot of them. If Coventry Police can do it in 4 days...

Is it worth putting in a second (duplicate) application to that force or would that just cause trouble?

    Re: Flipping Blinking Bureaucracy...

If this is the way the rest of the system works im not surprised there are so many people on the dole/benefits! I understand the reason for doing the CRB check, but when one police force can do it in 4 days, and another taking almost 2 months...

Submitting another would just get put to the back of the queue. Iv not talked to the ex about cancelling mine/if its possible to do so, then continuing with out it. (urgh )

Reckon its worth dropping an e-mail to the Daily Mail, surely they'd love something like this?

In a word "Yes" - but don't think its only the UK who loves "red-tape" and bureaucracy. Have had even worst experiences in other countries I have lived/worked in

Hope it gets sorted for you soon.

    Re: Flipping Blinking Bureaucracy...

Not bad going a 4 months wait! I had to wait best part of a year when I had mine done! They used to be sent to India to be checked and mine got lost! had to send in the application twice!!! Didn't think the police checked them though. Always thought that the agency had access to police records

    Re: Flipping Blinking Bureaucracy...

There has been a bit of a CRB overload recently as a consequence of those new rules they brought in - about parents and so on needing to be checked if they looked after kids routinely... that has probably contributed.

    Re: Flipping Blinking Bureaucracy...

I am still waiting for the flipping thing, 5 months its been now and still nothing. Thats 5 months of benefits my ex-gf has now been on and 5 months worth of lost tax for our cash strapped government! Even now CRB can do nothing but send 'prioritise this' e-mails, and the police say 'its in the system and will be looked at'.

    bleeping bleeping bleeping inept numpties!

    Ouch.

My first ever CRB check took all of 3 days to come back, my most recent one almost a month.

Must be very frustrating for you!

Why not get a List99 check instead/as well? Far quicker (48 hours), and all that's needed for working with children.

Or to a political party. I'm sure the opposition parties would love a a bit of anti-government ammo, and if they picked it up an ran with it, given the election campaign, that might just put a boot up the backside of the department/individual sitting on it's ...erm .... hands.

Just think ... you could end up on Newsnight.

Sounds like a good media story to me... combining bureaucracy and paedophilia into one will save on the number of articles they have to write.
