You used to be able to drive a Kia Rio off the forecourt with nothing more than a pound in your pocket and a signature that's pretty crazy I suppose. There was more to pay later though obviously ;)

Deal Extreme has some crazy stuff, far crazier than poundland.
I managed to get £1.10 once for a £1 coin cos someone needed one for their trolley and only had 3 x 20p and a 50p and I had no other change.
In fairness I got a couple of tubes of Condomi Lub from 99p Stores. Much better than KY:eek:.
My wife and I have been married 6 years and both of us pay our NI, so Family Planning would sort us out, but it's so much easier to get it at the 99p store instead.
As far as I'm concerned, only really stupid teenagers get pregnant through ignorance. The rest of them do it because it's a far more sensible route to a house than trying to save up and buy one.

Had quite a few good deals for a quid from eBay, including:
Baby car seat (damned good one)
Full set of golf woods (half decent brand, driver, 3, 5 and 7)
Putter (brand new!)
Golf bag (brand new!)
and the postage wasn't ramped up to cover :D

Import tax only hits after about £15. You're fine importing cheap stuff, certainly something for a £1 won't get stung. Even above that you may just get lucky and they won't tax it. Generally it's just a case of paying VAT, but the rules for taxing specific items are incredibly specific - you need to know exactly what you're ordering to be able to calculate the tax you'll be paying.
This isn't actually an item but someone in barnstaple will fix any bike problem for a 'poand' so I'd get a difficult repair carried out tbh
He will even repair a punchare or even revamp your whole bike for just 12p!

One quid on KAZ.L ( Kazakhmys PLC) just under 2 years@175p ago would have got you over 1200 quid today (spread betting), i know because i closed out my positions so i could speak to a job agent without being distracted, that proved to be a waste of time! (the agent that is).. Ho Hum!
