Does bluetooth range go through walls?

    Hi,

I've recently got a USB bluetooth adaptor that has a range of 100M - so it says and I pick up someone else's phone as well as my own.

I didn't know that bluetooth could go through walls but it obviously does and the hamlet where I live consists of about 8-12 properties so I was quite suprised to pick up someone elses phone!

I tried syncing with it but it wouldn't pair.

Yep, it can go through walls. If I go out in the car without my phone then the phone will pair to the BT unit in the car after I start the engine. Obviously it loses the connection once I drive off.

Nice, I didn't know it could!

It could annoy people if I sat in town centre with my laptop with the adaptor connected and tried to pair with different phones all the time or better still on a train!!

Re: Does bluetooth range go through walls?

All common modern wireless signal types (apart from the traditional IR that TV Remotes use) go through walls these days, I usually keep my Xbox headset on while I go 3 floors down to the kitchen and whip up a sandwich haha Same for my bluetooth PS3 headset.

Re: Does bluetooth range go through walls?

If I knew who's phone it was and used it as a dial up modem would I get in trouble for it?

Re: Does bluetooth range go through walls?

The range *is* affected by walls if that's what your original question meant? As for all wireless signals going through them then, again they're affected by walls (my TV sender goes through approx 30cm of wall *just* and uses the same freq as Wifi (so disrupts my PS3 wireless but that's another story)

Try your bluetooth phone in a pub, you'll get loads there. Make a contact with a name as something you want to send then send it, loads of phones accept contacts without the need for prompting

I could send them this ring tone that I have adapted a bit.

    http://noshins.dnsalias.org/mp3s/ring_tone.mp3

NB: dont turn it up loud until you have listened to it once and if you suffer hearing damage or a headache from it I take no responsibility.
