the worst kind of monopolist, but paypal.... Their customer service is one of the worst I've ever found in any industry, they charge a fair bit of money for seemingly nothing, and you have no choice but to use them for fleebay.
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
They effectively give out credit card processing merchant accounts with no vetting, no monthly fee, and no 3 month payment hold, just a 3.4% fee.
Banks often won't even consider giving merchant accounts to businesses if they haven't been in business for 2 years, and even then the terms aren't great (monthly fees, 2 month rolling payment holds - you can access paypal funds immediately)
Paypal filled a niche, but many people don't realise why other companies didn't want to take the same risks.
Paypal but only because I have to! Customer service, what customer service?
I never used any one of these method to withdraw or transfer the money. But these method could be useful.
As with the general tone of the above comments, I use Paypal when I have to and only when I have to. Sometimes, it's about the only convenient option. But I've only ever used it to pay for things, and even that, only occasionally and reluctantly.
I've also used Worldpay on occasion. I trust it more than Paypal, but am not a fan of any such service any avoid them all wherever possible and feasible.
Paypal - the only option for ebay, and also a convenient way to send people money off my credit card when I'm edging close to my overdraft limit!
I can't say I particularly like paypal, mind you - but I've also got no specific complaint against them. The only problems I've ever had were trying to pay for goods at ebuyer and scan using paypal - for some reason the payments just wouldn't go through. But I just wrote that off as a system problem, reverted to good old fashioned card transactions, and probably won't try it again. The things I *need* paypal to do, it seems to manage pretty well...
I use PayPal mostly to buy things, and on the other side (Web Admin etc) use Worldpay at work as that's who push online payments through
So, it's paypal then... pretty much as i expected. The reason i ask is because i am making a new site, and need a easy payment option. Paypal for e-commerce, can also accept credit and debit cards as long as you can the right paypal account. have i understood correctly?

I offer the customer choice of Google Checkout, Paypal and direct credit card payment on several sites I run.
Paypal is actually by far the most frequently selected - which surprises me,
must be people using their existing paypal balances from ebaying etc.
For a time I was heavily pushing GC (they had free processing), but still had loads more paypal payments.
