I'd been wanting to see Thailand for quite a while, so after a bit of saving and good timing I managed to pick up two return tickets from Manchester to Bangkok for £376, the only drawback to the good price was two pretty lengthy waits in the airport in Doha for the connecting flights, but other than that, very pleased
I had four months to map out an itinerary, make reservations, and scrape together enough money to cover the cost of the trip whilst still having enough money to live on (I'm an apprentice so may wages are pretty much minimum wage.)... I managed ok I guess, i'd worked out that £600 per person should be more than enough to cover three weeks on a budget.
So, here's my holiday in pictures, for you to
Jan 30th - Feb 2nd. Flight & Arrival
Some geekery on the plane
Our first wait was in Doha airport, as it was the middle of the night there were no other kids around so I figured it'd be more fun to sleep in the play area.
The girlfriend seemed to like the idea too.
Our flight was around 7.30am local time, so the sun had come up and I managed to see what Doha looked like. Plain and magnolia are the only words I can use to describe it.
Bangkok airport. Touchdown!
Amidst the chaos, adrenaline and jetlag, we almost jumped straight into one of that taxis waiting outside the main doors, but the price tag of B1000 (£20) to our hotel was well over the odds even by our standards!
B300 (£6) later and we arrived at our hotel. First impressions were a bit of nervousness, but as we would learn, the conditions of our area are no worse than anywhere else in Bangkok... not that it is a bad place, but the air there literally stinks, and which such a huge population, rubbish and litter is never too far out of sight.
The hotel had a pretty cool looking Tuk Tuk parked outside, the provide free lifts to the Skytrain, which we took advantage of the next day.
The room looked as well as it did online, and was gererally pretty nice... and it had the hottest shower we had on the entire trip ()
We went for a walk after we'd had a shower... I needed to find some food and have a look around! I wasn't about to go to bed after waiting 6 months!
I took this overlooking the traffic from a raised crossing... Very much a neccesity.
After stopping at the 7-11 (The first of MANY!) we decided to have our first encounter of street food. No time like the present and all that.
The next day we used the skytain and got off in Siam Square, in my mind it's pretty much Bangkok's shopping center, but with that said, you can buy anything, anywhere...
Advertising is everywhere. Just... everywhere.
... it seems I can only post 20 images in one post so i'm going to post each stage of the trip in a seperate reply. And this is taking so long I doubt i'll finish it tonight!
