    advice please

We have not very much parking in my road, there are only 7 houses in my road, most have parking, but then we get the people who dont live on the road who park there, three of them are understandable as they have no parking. But then there is one culprit, family of one of the residents, they live nearby, and park 2 of their cars in our spaces at a time, they dont even live in the road and have 2 spaces, I wouldnt mind if they lived there. I cant park on my drive, my parents use the two spaces, so i have to park where i can on the road, or in the local schools car park if its out of school hours. Is there any way i can get them to not park there legally? Or am i just forced to speak to them?

    Re: advice please

so basically too many cars for the number of houses and spaces provided?

Try complaining to your council that they should issue fewer permits.

There are no permits, its a free for all, with people who dont live there taking the spaces.

And thats a clue. (My highlight)

You have off road parking for two cars. Presumably there is nothing stopping you from parking round the corner in another road? (However, if they are parking illegally, or obstructing the highway, or parking on your private property, then action can be taken)

On what grounds do you have to complain - presumably they need somewhere to park as well? How are they taking the mick?

    Re: advice please

sorry to say this bud, but if there are no parking restrictions on the road, provided they are parked legally & have a valid road tax disc they can park where they like & there's not a damn thing you can do about it.

you don't own the area of road outside your house any more than they do. where they live has no bearing on their right to park there.

imagine how outraged you'd feel if they knocked your door & said "hey buddy, your car is parked in the spot i like to park in, can you move it?"

basically that's what you're doing to them. your house being geographically closer to the spot in question is completely irrelevant so if you do knock their dorr (& personally i'd advise against it) don't be surprised if you get told to do one
if it ain't broke...fix it till it is

I beg to differ, he doesn't have enough cars! If he had more cars he could claim more parking spaces, and he wouldn't have this problem.

More cars is always the answer!

    Re: advice please

If enough residents agree you could petition the council to make it permit holders only.

    Re: advice please

The annoying thing is that you don't have any legal right to park outside your own house. That said I know how annoying it is to have someone park outside when they don't even live there.

My neighbour to the left of where I live has his son come and visit every so often and always parks outside my house, meaning that if our double drive is full I either have to park in the unofficial turning space over the road. Or I have to park outside the house down the road where the son could park his car. The frustrating thing for me is that his Dad's drive is always empty so he could park it there.

The amount of arguments and agro its caused between me and the son is unreal. He's not a reasonable person at all, he likes to keep an eye on his car, hang on a sec so do I !!

    Re: advice please

You have no right to the road space outside your house. However, it is irritating when you have to park a fair way away. The people to speak to are your parents - you should be working with the spaces where the locals cannot park i.e. the spaces on your drive and the space on the road in front of it (which cannot be obstructed except by a family member). That's the 3 spaces you need

    Re: advice please

The space in front of my drive is not that great, its a bit tight, and when a lorry or two have to get down the road, it makes thigns worse, i have to either park across the road, when they arent doing their army style car swap thing, or down the road.
