When you first joined the Hexus Massiv', did you feel welcomed? Did you feel like part of the family pretty quickly?
Just wondering really.. Bit random, I know :).

Was such a long time ago! I tended to read alot more than post back then but have gradually increased my input over time. I've made a few friends here and there which is great. Although as with all forums there's a sense of underlining hostility in some members posts, replies and so on but that really doesn't bother me.
Just hoping members are enjoying my gaming news and reviews as much as I'm enjoying writing them :)
One of the first people i saw was directhex, and as his avatar is from MI3, i felt right at home :D
Nah, not really to be honest. It's just that with a forum like this, it's hard to get your posts noticed. There's so many posters than can write what I want to say with much more grace and detail than I ever could, so sometimes I think "What's the point in posting?" Though, whenever I've asked for help there's always been a bunch of people jumping to help me which I appreciate. I'd say that unless you are a really good poster or are asking for help, you won't get noticed much. That's pretty much the norm with big forums such as hexus.
I did feel welcome yeah.
I came on looking for help with my Abit board and as there was a dedicated forum for abit at that time, it seemed the best place. After that I stuck around and here I am :)
That's the good thing concerning the user reviews, you don't just get a one off, promotional and slightly biased review. It's good that users have contrasting perceptions of some games, there will always be differeing views, everyone has their own taste and as such can only deliver comments on the impact said game has on them and their experience.
As for the time, I have way too much spare time.
As for the money, well gaming's been my passion and it'll always be put before most things even my other half sometimes xD let's just not let her read this ey.
I think my third post was a tongue-in-cheek request on the Window 7 Beta thread as to whether anyone would like to share their beta key with me. I got stomped on, of course, but not very hard.
I'd say hexus is pretty welcoming once you get your post count up a bit - I think there's a certain hesitancy towards people with lowish post counts because it's hard to tell if they're here for the long haul or for the "20 post - free shipping!!". I've noticed that a few people have joined and stuck around since I joined, so I guess we must be doing something right! :D
Oh god I've been here so long I can't remember.
I think we try hard to maintain the quality of the genuine members who are here for the awesome community we have here. Trolls are not welcome.
Yes it does take you a few years/posts of hard graft to become a "name" or genine poster here but by no means will we ever try not to be friendly to those who deserve it (read: no trolls)
I joined here back in the day when everyone pretty much joined up on every tech forum going, bittech, OcUK, Blarg-OC. I floated around quite a bit on most of them switching from one forum to another.
I can't really remember if I was made to feel welcome or not when I first joined, but I was when I decided to make this my main tech forum :) I think Zak set my user tag as "Lurker no more"
I think I'd almost gotten banned by my 10th post :P but after that was all lovely.
What was the result ?
Why is that the second image result?!
Does being groomed by Trig count as a warm welcome? ;)
Honestly? Yes.
But I am old enough to shrug it off, and just get on with stuff :)
Whatever gave you the impression I'm "settled in", I'm more like an uncle who turns up for the occasional holiday and whom people who leaves before the drinks come out!
I don't really remember how hard it was to settle in. It can't have been that hard or I doubt I would have stayed.
I guess so - there is definitely a suspicion of new members due to the scan offer and the sheer amount of spam posters, but once you get your post count up you get taken slightly more seriously.
Zak33 and Deckard bullied me and made me do things for money :'(
It was about 9 years ago though so I've nearly forgot the trauma
Search --> Posts by user "snootyjim" --> Sort by date, in ascending order
Back in 10 :)
And then I'm googling no trolls allowed
Not particularly, looking back, no. Advice in hardware forum was sound, and people were generally pleasant.
Problem was that I spent a lot of time complaining to Scan in their forum because they made a complete hash of RMAing my PC, so I got extremely fed up and coming on here wasn't all that enjoyable. Usually meant yet more had gone wrong with my PC or they'd mucked up again :(.
It took a while for me to really get involved, probably about halfway through last year I started to post fairly frequently, and now I\'m rarely off here... so I guess you could say it took a while. Depends what you count as "settled" I guess. It\'s certainly a lot better when people have a rough idea of who you are, and recognise your name, it\'s more like a community at that point, but it takes time for that to happen.
I literally hunted DR down.. I made him MAKE me feel at home ;)
I really can't remember, I do know that until a few months (ish) ago I didn't frequent here as much as I've done recently, think I've become much more active since then. Being a good few hundred miles from 'daaan saaaaaff' so I can't go to meets/etc is a pain though & probably does make it harder to 'fit in' with the regulars who all seem to know each other as mates rather than just forum members.
PS Matt - Answer my PM pleeeease! The 'creation' wants to be shown to the world! :D
Every time I think I\'m settled in, I get carried away and say something crazy which leaves me open to ridicule. Then It\'s back to the old cyber bullying forum for comfort.
True it takes time to become a regular, and meeting off-forum is a (small) part of that; but that's not to say new blood isn't just as valuable as long service. 'Fitting in' can also be a matter of perception, when coming in to an established community, it may seem there's more inner-circle mateyness going on than is actually the case.
I've been to a few meets in the past, scared people with my ability to sleep with my eyes open and been giggled at for my inability to drink more than 4 drinks without needing to pass out :) Things have changed and I now don't have the disposable funds that I used to have. Instead of disposable funds for meets it's disposable nappies now and as such I'll probably turn up at one in the future, or an event planned soon.
When I first joined before I was morphed into Lee @ SCAN I was actually impressed that the forum was a good place and it was lively, and it didn't have any trolls or keyboard warriors wanting to argue all the time.
When David's eyes met mine and he pulled my head into his bosom, stroked my white boy afro and told me I was home - I knew forever that I would always feel welcome at HEXUS.net.
:)
Butuz
Can't remember that far back. But everyone made me feel at home from the start. Zak & Moby notable mentions. :) as well as that Vaul bloke :p and Deckard, as he was then & some chav called Wildmonkey UK ;)
Pretty much as above - I started off posting in the tech forums as there were questions/problems that I could answer. In the early days I made a couple of forrays into GD, and got no response, so I stayed in the tech forums.
While that is where I spend most time, I do value the community aspect, and as a mod, it is what I like to promote. I don't like 'cyber bullying' or flame wars, so if I can help make the forums welcoming and inclusive for genuine new members, its a win - but spammers beware! :naughty:
Those that made me feel particularly welcome in the early days were Agent, Moby-Dick and Ikonia.
I didn't try and like some others, I mainly stuck in the Hardware forums. Technically, I've been a member for around 10 years but I didn't stick around regularly (hence the relatively low post/day and late comparatively late rejoin date).
Earliest member I remember is probably Gordy and the (perceived though possibly imagined) obsessions with computer cases, especially high-end Coolermaster cases back when they were the daddy.
Unfortunately, this also reminds me of the Scan back then. To be kind, I'd say that service had a couple of rough edges compared to the reputation they've built today.
I can't remember the early days much, it was before the last hack in 2003..
If I didn't feel at home, I wouldn't be here now though ;)
After I performed the ritual which can never be mentioned I was allowed into the inner sanctum, I'm still not sure why I had to wear one trouser-leg rolled up... ;)
I still haven't been to a Hexus meet. I keep saying I'll goto one every year but something else pops up and I never go :( Couldn't go to the lan in March because of what went wrong with my car in January.
That said, when I do go, I'm sure I shall be treated no differently than anyone else who goes to a LAN :)
I came, I saw how helpful this place was, and I stayed. Simple :)
