    Job Search?

Hi chaps I’m looking for a new job somewhere in the IT market, I see there are 1000’s of online recruitment agencies and ‘job search engines’ so I’m just wondering which ones you rate as ‘good’ I’m looking to stay local so I will need to filter my search. Please post any that you have found useful.

    Thank you in advance

I thought recruitment agencies were a bad thing because the employer has to pay X% of your wage for X amount of years if you get the job through the recruitment agency?

The agency normally charges a fee to the employer based on a percentage of the permanent salary figure, anything from 10-25%, this is a figure that is charged to the employer which is NOT something that effects you or your salary. Having said that yes the company has to pay the agency for you, but if its a good agency (and there are some out there) the fee is justified. The fee is normally a 1 off payment.

Just a note, they all have the same jobs, once one gets them they all do. If they don't list the employeer, do a google on the job discription and find the company asking for the employee, if so their web site may have a jobs sections, and companies prefer if you apply direct as they don't need to pay an agency, and that could mean more money for you.

I always found writing directly to companies worked a real treat, be more than obliging in as far as offering a portfolio of work (if relevant), trial period, or informal meeting.

Got me a network assistant job at 16, all those years ago...

Seconded, shows you're able to get up off your arse and get stuck in without the middle men.

My experience of recuitment agents is that most of them are w**kers. They will start off very enthusiastic then start to lose interest after the first couple of positions that they suggest to you then never bother phoning you and fob you off with lame excuses whenever you call them.

Its really frustrating because its such a waste of your time and their time but you need to try and keep them on your side to keep them working for you.

Oh, and when you finally do get a job you stay on their database (even if you request to be removed) and they'll keep phoning you every 6 months or so!

Jobserve and Jobsite are good websites..

    Good luck!

    cheers,
    dave
