    The Pacific....

So, handsup - who's watching the new series on Sky Premiere/Premiere HD?

Just started watching the first one, so not made up my mind, but it's got some very heavy hitters and talented people in it - including the team behind Band of Brothers.

    What do we think?

I'm a few episodes in. I won't give any spoilers but I've been a little disappointed with it so far. Possibly because of the super high standards set by BoB. I'm still enjoying it though.

As above - although I've never seen BoB and episode 3 was "meh" to say the least.

    Re: The Pacific....

A friend of mine showed me it, we're both big fans of Band Of Brothers but this isn't quite up to the same standard. Although that is a very high standard to have to reach!

I guess part of it is that the pacific theatre just isn't really as interesting a theatre, no towns, few tanks, endless jungle, boring weather etc.

I haven't seen it, but that's partly because I'm not prepared to upgrade my sky package to watch it - I really hope that people haven't upgraded their package specifically to watch this, as it will just give sky the green light to move more things on to their premium channels.

Indeed, just watched the fourth episode - enjoying it so far but have to concur, maybe its the settings/actors etc but Band of Brothers is a hard act to follow.

    Re: The Pacific....

As soon as I found out out I would need the movie package I crossed it off the list of things to watch. Sky instead of being greedy should have allowed normal Sky users to see it, and then charge extra if you wanted it in HD. Ah well.....

It could also be down to the rights granted to sky by HBO. Not saying that is the reason it's on a premium package, just a suggestion.

I can see your point but do you remember on bbc one ( or was it two?) that Rome drama?? That was HBO. Also Band of Brothers was another HBO production and yes cost less than Pacific, but still should have been for everyone. Ans as for subscription don't we already pay that for Sky? Anyway said my bit don't want to de-rail the thread.

Sounds like you've answered your own question there. The BBC had no involvement in this one so HBO/Sky can charge whatever they like in the UK; presumably since both Rome and BoB were co-produced by the BBC there was some clause which said that the BBC could put it on their (license fee funded channels) for nothing.

As for subscriptions and Sky, you're kidding right? Just because you pay one subscription you think that's going to stop them charging you again for something you actually want?

Ive been very dissappointed so far. Lack of actual fighting is my main concern if im honest. I just watched episode 4 and have to say that the last 2 episodes are clearly lacking. I expected this weeks episode 4 to pick up again (which it did very briefy) however this did not particularly materialise. Here's hoping for next week..............

    Re: The Pacific....

I was discussing it with my Sky owning mate, we reckon another series set on the Russian front would have been a much better idea. Though I doubt HBO/Playtone would stump up the cash if it didn't involve 'mericans.

Glad I'm not the only one who is disappointed with Pacific. It's no B of B and I find it hard to care about the charaters or remember who is who.

    Re: The Pacific....

I dunno... I'm quite enjoying it...

its a different side to the war so far... showing alot more of the emotional effects and also the extremes that the soldiers were subjected too...

i agree that there will need to be more fighting... but the balancing it out with the other stuff that went on in the war (lets face it, its not all gun fights and epic battles) is quite a nice breath of fresh air in a war series...
