I know i can just bin it, but should i scribble out the address and write "Return to Sender" on the envelopes?
Whats the right way to notify the people who send out the letters?

thats what I did when I moved into my house. Don't seem to get anything now for the previous owners.
return to sender, no longer lives at this address works for me in the past
If there is an agent who looks after the property on behalf of the landlord, give it to them.

Return To Sender, Not Known at this Address, as above works quite well.
Some stupid person who used to live at my old address got rather irate with me because she had her P60 sent there, 5 weeks later she came round asking if I had it..... Then got pissed off when I said no, I return it all.....
Some people are just retards I guess, As if i'd know it was important and not junk without opening it all!
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
I sign up all the names of previous tennants/owners on the mail preference service for the address I live at. This reduces the levels of junk in their name, but not stuff they've signed up for.

As stated, ask your landlord/letting agent first. If they don't know just scribble out the address, write "Not known at this address- return to sender" next to it, and bung it all in a postbox. I've been here at my current address for about 3 1/2 years now and it's only really in the last 6 months that I've stopped getting regular letters to ex occupants- for the first couple of years I was getting 2-3 letters a week. Of course it's illegal to open other people's mail so of course I never accidentally opened any to find that they were from debt collection agencies chasing quite a few seperate unpaid debts. I just kept sending them back and they stopped eventually.
