Ever wondered where that plane you can see is going?
Now there's a real time air traffic control webpage that shows info on flights that are currently over your head
It'll tell you the airline operator, heading, speed & altitude
http://www.radarvirtuel.com/
Geeky I know, but I like it
I only wish I still had 2 screens so I could keep it open in the second!
Re: Ever wondered where that plane you can see is going?
Oh its usually pretty good, but at times there can be about a 4/5 min delay on it.
It also only shows planes that have left major aiports like Heathrow/Gatwick etc, it doesnt seem to include smaller ones like Southampton etc. (I could be wrong on that, but cant see any atm)

Shame some smaller planes aren't tracked :(. Would be good to know where the planes taking off near my girlfriend's are going.. She lives pretty close to Carlisle Airport.
Pretty ace website though :).
Re: Ever wondered where that plane you can see is going?
That is cool :) Just spent 30 min having a look at where the different planes are off too.
Re: Ever wondered where that plane you can see is going?
Is it Handscomb that flies planes? Does anyone know what type of planes he flies.. One of them could well be him! :D

How depressing, seeing planes fly off to the Caribbean, South Africa, Las Vegas.... :(
Re: Ever wondered where that plane you can see is going?
wow that is a lot of planes. Cool site
Re: Ever wondered where that plane you can see is going?
I wonder that all the time!
An augmented reality app for phones would be awesome, just point to the sky and find out?
EDIT: Turns out 'Plane Finder' app for iPhone is pretty much the same thing, not augmented reality tho....
Re: Ever wondered where that plane you can see is going?
if only it worked for UFOs aswell :D
I clicked and dragged a plane then and i almost belived it might work and i could cause my own lost type disaster.
Re: Ever wondered where that plane you can see is going?
Interesting link, cheers. Just flown back from Denmark today into London Gatwick, on a nice little Regional airjet 200 for the first time :) Looking out the window while preparing to land and really noticed how full with planes circling around it is at the same time - looking at that map can see why.
Re: Ever wondered where that plane you can see is going?
Yeah it's pretty scary how close they seem

Re: Ever wondered where that plane you can see is going?
I've been using www.flightaware.com for a long time. It does a similar thing with for US flights only, all flights (unless blocked), including all the small flights, are shown if they are under radar control. Flightaware shows many more flights than this site, but their map is nowhere near as good. I'd like to see a similar interface with the non-airline flights.
Re: Ever wondered where that plane you can see is going?
This is great, just chose a plane that was incoming to Liverpool airport and tracked it, could see it out of the window at the same time :D
Re: Ever wondered where that plane you can see is going?
I can use this to check what planes are on the approach to Heathrow (I live under the final 30 seconds, take occasional snaps) very cool :D
