    Next day by noon delivery

I am just wondering, what sort of guarantee/compensation do courier usually provide when there is no 'adverse weather conditions'? I placed two orders yesterday, paid a premium for before noon delivery. Cty-link delivered by 11:18, whereas I am still waiting for the parcel sent by DPD. The later was even dispatched *before* the one from City-Link, so it has nothing to do with the e-tailers so I am placing the blame primarily on the courier.

Re: Next day by noon delivery

You'd be suprised by how they can wriggle out but likely you can claim complensation for the late delivery but it could take up to 28 days.

You could always try ringing up DPD and demanding a refund.

Re: Next day by noon delivery

Well, it arrived at 18:17, just as I was to go out a second time (and I missed something I intended to do today because I waited too long to go out the first time). It doesn't even say delivery by noon on the box that arrived, so I was polite with the delivery man who explained that delivery by noon in this location is just not feasible in the first place given that the buses only leave the depot at 12:30. Sounds like I will need to have a word with the e-tailer who charged me extra for a service that was not meant to be available.

DPD also require "Before 12am" tape on the parcel so their sorting staff can easily spot it before it gets loaded into the automated system (cos you know, scanning the barcode and it bleeping at you loudly isn't enough for your average hub worker!)

Plus if you've got the Consignment number, you can check what service it was raised on via their website (www.dpd.co.uk), it's usually a 14 digit number starting 1550.

That'll achieve precisley nothing, DPD's contract of service is with the etailer, not the recipient of the parcel. They can argue for a refund of the service charge (which they may or may not pass on)

Re: Next day by noon delivery

It's different though. 7AM to 5PM implies that the latest you will receive the parcel is around 5PM. So you can at least be sure that you'll be able to enjoy a dinner outside by 6PM. This is more equivalent of the parcel leaving the depot at 5:30PM, and arriving at midnight.

The tracking system didn't state the service until it was delivered and it clearly says 'parcel-dpd next day'. No 'Before 12PM tape' on the box either so it was blatantly sent as next day delivery only, intentionally or not.

Well, I've sent a message to the e-tailer. Will see how they will deal with my polite complaint.

Re: Next day by noon delivery

I understand what you meant, but I think there is still a difference between loading after the delivery period start (and get delivered but still get it in before the promised delivery time), and loading after it was already meant to be delivered

I don't normally pay for set delivery time. I don't think I've ever done so actually, even this time it was for my flatmate's benefit rather than mine. Friday was the last working day I had to sort a couple of things in town, as I need to take a train back down on Sunday.

By having everything delivered by noon, I would've been free to leave the flat and sort what I needed to sort in the afternoon. Instead, I was stuck in the flat the whole day, and make alternative arrangement. Not the end of the world, but it's hassle that I would've paid to avoid.

They can usually wriggle out of it using traffic as the cause TBH.

But most of the time as Gonz says they should issue a full or part refund.

My city link guy usually does a first pass about 9am, if I miss that for whatever reason being a decent chap he usually tries again about lunchtime

Home delivery network.... never received a delivery from them, they dont even bother to fill out the slips any more (mine has a delivery code and a x in "it's at the depot", no other info not even who its for)

Re: Next day by noon delivery

City-Link went from not good (often arriving quite late in the day and ninja carding), to pretty decent (typically before noon). But given it's been a while since I had an order sent to this address, I didn't want to take any chances. Turns out fine, I guess it's DPD I can't have early delivery with.

Re: Next day by noon delivery

The most they can do is refund your delivery cost (the etailer) and possibly offer you free delivery next time if they're feeling nice. Royal mail's next day special delivery guarantee is only a money back offer, I assume all couriers are the same.

DPD supposedly have a really good service where they text you the time they're aiming to deliver your parcel to within the hour - if the etailer has opted in to cooperate. Unfortunately last time I ordered something that came via DPD, I duly got a text at 8am saying "Your parcel has been loaded onto a van, it will arrive between 8AM and 6PM". Thanks guys, lot of help that is.

Since then I discovered that sending parcels to the student union care of my societies is win as they tend to deliver pretty early to campus and there's always someone to receive it

There's a reason why, it costs 10p per SMS sent to the sending company and you have to use the most up to date versions of their software, which isn't always compatable with your SOP systems.
