Does anyone here use Dell for machines for work?
I've just ordered 3 and have just got an email saying that the estimated delivery date is the 21st of May...
Seriously, how the hell can they give those sorts of lead times and still be in business..

We use Dell all the time, don't get lead times like that, normally a couple of weeks.
However I would say that the times given are very conservative in order to avoid being disappointed. Ours normally take a week maximum to turn up (desktops) some servers may take longer.
I buy Dell laptops for work and we ususally get them in about a week, but they usually quote 4 weeks or so.
My daughter's work laptop screen went a few days ago, I called Dell and they told me an engineer would call in around 5 working days, 20 minutes later the engineer called her and made an appointment for that afternoon. They are pretty good really.

Eagles may soar, but weasels never get sucked into jet intakes.
This is why I always like to keep the odd machine laying around, however since I had no IT budget last year all machines were used and not replaced, I got told on Tuesday that we have 2 new staff starting next monday and another one in a few weeks time..
From experience, it normally takes 7-10 days for them to arrive from the date of order.
I've pretty much been tied into buying from Dell at work now. That's one of the reasons they can give 5 week lead times and still be in business - exclusive deals...
The lead times for desktops / workstations are pretty good - as others have said 7 - 10 working days normally, unless you purchase something particularly out of leftfield. Servers seem to take a bit longer. What have you ordered? I'm surprised they'd give a 5 week estimate for anything...
3 Vostro's, 2 i7's and a dual core one...
Nothing exciting...
Yeah, they shouldn't take anything like 5 weeks then...![]()
Aye thats what I thought..
have you rang to cancel yet ?
when they ask why you should get them within a few days![]()
Yeah I used to buy them for my own company (rack servers at that time) and we use the desktops here now.
lead times varied for me from a week up to a month, depending on a) which product it was (how new) and b) How I ordered. Pure website orders always took longer but if ordering through my account manager he could usually sort things a bit faster for meSo my advice is speak to your account manager (ask for one if s/he has not been assigned yet) and see what they can do.
If its a newly released product though, you are probably out of luck..
Generally if Dell have quoted a lead time like that, then there's a problem with one or more of the components. Ring up the sales team, found out the problem component and change your specs slightly. You can often get an upgrade at a discount easily this way if you sound annoyed enough or have ordered enough previously.

This is bunny and friends. He is fed up waiting for everyone to help him out, and decided to help himself instead!
That sounds weird, work put an order in yesterday and we have an estimated date of the 21st...
May seems a tad extreme![]()
Ignore the time like others said you'll get it within 7 days or so they are quite quick.
