    Suitable attire for Visa Application

I'm going to apply for a working visa however what kind of attire should I wear when I submit the application in person? I was thinking smart casual...but someone just asked me if I'm going suited up. Now I just don't know...

Any help would be most appreciated

If in doubt, you can't go wrong in a suit IMO.
That said, I don't think it really matters especially if there is no interview.
Going to Japan by any chance?

Why did I read that as suitable satire for a visa application? I was about to suggest Barrack Obama jokes

Re: Suitable attire for Visa Application

Hehe, why yes TooNice...though I have to say I may not be using the Visa if I can't land a job....kind of a vicous circle at the moment. It would help alot if I had a job first then apply for visa but to get a job I need the visa....and then there is getting poper accomodation. lol.

Anyhow, accordingly though it does stipulate "applicants may be interviewed"...

I'm just finalising all the last little bits with regards to getting the Visa (so I can get a job) before I am officially told I am being made redundant.

well a suite is always best.

Its very easy to de-smart from a tie, open top button on shirt....

But the inverse is quite a bit harder.

Re: Suitable attire for Visa Application

I didn't know you need to get dressed up for a Visa Application! When I got mine (USA) I'm pretty sure everyone was just wearing normal clothes, so a complete variety. Most of the day was spent queueing, a lot of it standing up, and any interview was conducted through a kiosk window like a post office.

Same for Australia. Other than when applying as a skilled migrant. then something more formal would often appear.

That's what I was thinking, you'll be standing/sitting around for a long time and will most likely only ever have to deal with a fairly low level administrator. By all means wear a suit if you like but I think comfort is the priority here.

Re: Suitable attire for Visa Application

Well...I'll hold judgement on how today went but with regards to what I wore...

Well a suit was total overkill but I believed it helped towards the application. There were a couple of people wearing suits (older Japanese people), the younger Japanese lads were wearing ripped jeans and t-shirts and the ladies all wore smart casual/down tuned business outfits. I think I was one of three people applying for a Visa (the rest were Japanese natives filling in some other documents). I have tickets 506 and 509. lol.

Something comfortable would have been a better choice, but now I know better for the future.
Anyhow, had muchos fun in Trocadero trying to play DDR in a suit (with my friend also in a suit).

Again, thanks for everyone's input and it is a terribly small world when Gerrard bumped into me in the pub.
