My IT Department Can't Fix IT... But Scan Can!

As some of you know, I'm the IT Manager for a site that manufactures Aerospace parts. It's a good site to work for and there's plenty of banter between the managers.

To cut a long story short, I turned up to work the other day and there were Scan's PC repair service leaflets on all of the office desks.

Our resident comedian (also known as the Site Services Manager) has decided that, due to the excellent service he had received from Scan on his home computer, to plaster the office with Scan leaflets.

When people enquired about the leaflets, he told them to get their computer problems fixed there as "they were very quick, reasonably priced and better than our local IT team" - and then gave me a wink!

    Oh well....

Looks like I'm outsourcing to Scan then!

As good as Scan are at their job, I'm pretty sure they're not (yet!) marketing corporate IT soluations ala Tech Guys (yes it's scary!)

Well all the Tech Guy's services are basically all carried out instore. Guess who in my store is the unpaid un-official Tech Guy ? Me

Makes me mad that I do all the jobs that my colleagues put through for laptops such as data transfer, recovery disc creation, Windows 7 Upgrades and health checks etc. I'm a sales person yet when I ask for extra money for doing all of the above I'm told there is no budget for it, so tempted to say no I won't do it to the next service thats sold and watch the poo storm it creates.

Sorry didn't mean to rant, it's not been a good week

Im an IT Manager for a charity and users never know what work we do and always think that machines at home are the same as machines at work. God I hate users at times they want everything and never think that IT Professionals know better than them.

Re: My IT Department Can't Fix IT... But Scan Can!

I deal with plenty of IT departments (I work in one too) and the sheer number who are in it it because family own the company are scary - there is a distinct lack of IT knowledge in large portions of the IT industry...
Please do not message me about Scan Free shipping, I no longer work for HEXUS.net
