    What tablet pc?

Well i keep seeing these being recommended for Uni and other work types and ive been wanting one for years . As im starting Uni this year my parents offered to get one for my Birthday , so what should i be looking at getting? How much should i be spending (i think £500?)?

Things i can think of needing:
    Large screen
    Suffcient CPU power (not atom)
    Long Battery life
    Wifi
    Reliable screen, high resolution

I looked at dells XT2 but its over £1.5k . Im not one for the whole fancy designs, i prefer a plain and sleek business style (but i wont turn down other designs like MSI gaming line).

Please please please... dont mention the Ipad as its not what i want and isnt good enough .

    Re: What tablet pc?

Right, I'd recommend getting one that is "complamentory" by this i mean lowish power, not atom, but not farcry running.

the HP 2740p is great, but do you 'need' i5, it has lesser battery life and costs £1.5k, but is considered one of the best it seams.

The Lenovo x200 tablets are quite good, but expensive.

I think the £500 is not going to get you anything good, the netbooks with touch screens are £500 and they are mostly utter crap.

    Re: What tablet pc?

Yeh i dont need nor require an i5 or anything that powerful, it would only be used for webbrowsing and typing up work/over similar taxing tasks . As long as its not an atom cpu it should be strong enough, even a single core is good enough

So youd say i should up my budget? Might be able to obtain 600 or £700, would that be enough?.

    Re: What tablet pc?

Hmm £700 as max, that would be the HP touchsmart tops then.

If its just lecture notes, something that is only just capable of running OneNote might be a better use of money. You should be able to find a Tecra M4 or something for £150 second hand.

So long as it is just a second PC, I think it might be better.

    Re: What tablet pc?

Ah i see, yeh i cant really say that it will be used heavily because i will use my main rig for anything intensive. Its just nice to be able to have something portable but bigger than my HD2 .

I think that toshiba should be good enough, i will keep these models as a record as too look for on ebay in the next month or so.

    Thanks

    Re: What tablet pc?

Actually another question, your personal opinion whats better? a convertable or a slate? Just saw a fujitsu slate core2duo for only £180 brand new, i know its probably a crap one but if they are going for that price it might be a better option .

    Re: What tablet pc?

np, but I would say to look out on the second hand side of things potentially, if you don't need oodles of power you will probably get a better deal, except for worn out batteries, they should be just as good as new one for running OneNote (which is kind of the 'killer' feature for uni life, along with the equation recognition toys if your doing a proper degree)

    Re: What tablet pc?

Convertible every time, but then I can touch type.

At that price, its worth getting it and the "clip on" keyboard I think most slates sell.

    Re: What tablet pc?

There so many convertibles and slates on ebay, all at good prices so i think what ill do is wait till a few weeks before and then decide on a good auction on ebay .

    Thanks again.

    Re: What tablet pc?

I have a Lenovo T60 tablet, not the fastest but gives me everything I want and the embedded mobile sim gives me broadband on the go. I got it 2 years ago for £400 and absolute bargain in my eyes.
